Very Slow file access

G'day

I've just installed Win 7 Home premium in my PC. OS on SSD and attached a 1TB WD hdisk for storage. File access, eg .. transfer, copy, delete to and from the hdisk etc... are really very slow. My previous PC running on XP no such problem. However, there is no such issue with the SSD. I'm very new to Win 7. Can anyone help or advise?

Same Issues

I know this doesn't help but I have the same problems as well. I've tried editing the registry on the win7 machine that is acting as the "server" with these steps Slow network performance when you open a file that is located in a shared folder on a remote network computer. My next step is to do this on the "client" win 7 machines. All are running home premium. I'll let you know if that helps anything.

Have you checked your CMOS settings? Is this system the very same one used for WXP? Can you fill out some info on your profile about your system? Have you checked for BIOS updates for your MOBO?

Thanks for the response! It's a Dell Inspiron 580, bought new with Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I've already had to update the driver from the vendor website for the NIC card and I've made sure the BIOS was up to date by trying to update from the Dell support site, said the latest version was already installed. Looking at this first post closer I may have mis-interpereted. My issue is that I have two Dell 580's, when sharing files and opening a folder that has a lot of pdf files in it over the network, it takes over a minute to load and sort all the pdf's. Very slow network response even though both pc's are running at 100gb/s and NW is all 100mb full. My issue is strictly slow response with sharing large folders that seemed to have occured after applying service pack 1 for windows 7.
