Yeah, it installed a security update (KB2585542) which I actually uninstalled in an attempt to fix things, a MSEssentials update and Office 2010 Service Pack 1 (32 bits). Do you think the service pack could have anything to do with this?

It's possible. Have you tried to reinstall MS Office?

Also have run a virus and malware scan just to rule that out as well?

You can also try to disable everything and trial and error to see if one of your programs is causing the long boot in MSCONFIG startup.

I'm not sure, but I think there is repair option during the uninstall. Instead of uninstall you select change.

I had already tried disabling everything in MSCONFIG, it didn't help. No virus according to MSE.

I checked and saw that an update for Adobe Reader was installed yesterday, I uninstalled some PDF tools I installed a couple of days ago and reinstalled Reader, it helped a little apparently, although it's still taking quite some time. I might try to uninstall Office and see if that helps.

EDIT: I repaired Office and I'm not sure what to think, it's taking a lot less to shut down but it's still taking about 30 seconds to log in, it's an improvement but I'm all out of ideas.

As in my post # 2, it still sounds like you newly installed Office is causing the problem. Yes if you uninstall Office you will loose the updates to Office. Because it was the last thing you installed when this problem started.
Have you done a sfc /scannow? After that scan is done with no problems found and if it was my computer I would remove Office and install it again. I would then see if things got better before installing and updates to Office. If things are okay I would install a few updates to Office at a time. After each install I would check again to see if things are still okay and so on.

If that's not enough I'll try to upload the ETL file somewhere (any recommendations?).

Any of the sites listed in the tutorial/guide would be fine, but make sure you 7zip or RAR the .etl file (and if it created an associated .cab file, make sure that's in there too) before you upload it somewhere.

Hi everybody, I hadn't used my computer all day today, I just turned it on a few minutes ago and this time it actually booted as it usually did (before this whole windows update issue), no more than 5 seconds from welcome screen to desktop. I didn't uninstall Office but I did that whole repair thing so I guess it probably had something to do with either Office or Adobe Reader. Anyway, I'll let you know if it starts slowing down again...

Today my PC boot for 1 minute, logon for 10 minutes and load desktop for 5 minutes.
