I finally bypassed the error I was receiving due to a problem with my network sharing, and VMWare Workstation finally started to virtualize my PC. I was extremely happy that it was finally working, so I left it for around a half hour and let it do its work. I came back and the green bar was almost filled. I started to do my regular internet browsing, when it began to flash at the bottom of my screen. I assumed it finished, so I opened it and came across this error:

scaled.php

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
I have ~750 gigs HD
8 gig RAM
All of my Windows Updates are Installed
UAC is disabled
Firewall is offline
"Ant" is an administrator

I am on a free license for around 28 days remaining and I would like to get to know the program so I can decide if I should purchase the full version.

Does anyone have any idea why this would happen to me?
If you need any other information, please post below and I will get it as soon as possible.
Thanks.

The immediate thing to try is what it suggests in the error message, it seems the program is trying to open or write to a location where there is a priviledge problem.

I find the documentation that comes with that program is pretty comprehensive.

I've checked the documentation online, and I've done every possible thing that I am supposed to do, as I stated all antivirus is off, UAC is off, Windows Firewall is disabled. The green bar fills basically to the end and then has a problem.

You are using version 8.02 of VMware Workstation I assume? And you are virtualizing the machine that you are running on, or are you using another machine and making an image of the other?

I'll give this a shot today on my box and see if I can duplicate the issue.

Alright, I have it trying to virtualize my desktop right now. Unfortunately, my work desktop has a bunch of ISO's and such on it, so this may take quite some time. I've got right around 1TB of data on this machine.

Hi there
sometimes you don't get automatic access to CREATE mode on a drive.

Try the following

Check the security options for the drive where you want to CREATE the new VM.
Give yourself Full access rights.

Failing that try running the program in Administrator mode.

Cheers
jimbo.

I was able to convert my running machine, it took about 4 hours to complete and results in over 400 .vmdk files and around 800GB of disk space consumed, but it finished just fine.
