W7 DVD maker

If WMM allows burning i wonder why they even bothered with WDVDM ? Can i assume my best bet would be to D/L WMM and use that instead of WDVDM, and if so will i no longer have the same widescreen issue as I did with WDVDM?

It is WLMM - Windows Live Movie Maker, not the older WMM.

I cannot answer that because I am not sure what the cause of your problem is.

WLMM does not output in a DVD format. WDVDM converts movie to DVD format.

With great respect I think the problem here is that perhaps you are not quite familiar as to what happens when you re-render a video file.

What gave you that idea? LOL...

I'm just following instructions found on the web. Running it through Windows Live Movie Maker turned the 798 MB avi into 5.8GB wmv, and another time saving a project file did not good whatsoever.

All I know is any widescreen avi I open in Windows DVD Maker comes out as 4.3 all scrunched up.

Google "no widescreen with Windows DVD Maker" you'll understand.

When and if you do please post here.

I've throughly researched the problem and although some say if you encode it with Windows Movie Maker (2.6) and/or Windows Live Movie Maker and open that file with Windows DVD maker it will work. I've also seen just opening the project file from Movie Maker will work but from where I sit WDVDM will not open Movie Maker project files.

I think you are right. I now remeber that the DVD I once made played on the computer but not on the DVD player. Glad you added that comment. Since I usually use DVD Flick, it escaped my (bad) memory.

it seems like this has been going on since WDVDM came out. It's really too bad it hasn't been fixed by MS and all it's resources. It should just run, and you shouldn't have to encode with another program etc.

Well just as an experiment, I have just uploaded a 16:9 ratio AVI video clip from a camcorder into Win DVD maker and just clicked on burn and have a video that is showing in full wide screen! Have checked all the folders that burning created and they are perfectly normal.

dazco. Would it be possible for you cut down one of your AVI files to about 25 seconds duration and put it up on a server so that I can download it to try it on my system? You can always PM the link if you don't want your clip to go public!

I had this same problem with DVD Maker. I found the solution online.

You have to launch Windows Live Movie maker, set your aspect ratios and such there, and then click on the DVD icon to "burn to DVD"

You may get the warning that the movie may not fit on the DVD, but if it's under 2 hrs long, it should fit. I've gotten the warning a few times and just went ahead and launched the encoding.

What happens then is, it encodes the project (this can take some time), then when it's done, it launches Windows DVD Maker, where you can choose the menu and set it up. The aspect ratio will come out as whatever you set it for in Live Movie maker.

I wish MS would fix that little problem so that we could avoid the extra time for Live Movie Maker to encode it. As stated earlier, Move Maker does have some nice menus.

actually i just used dvdflick and it worked perfect and faster to boot. No need to use windows DVD maker. When i used it in the past i only used it to create the image but i burned with another app. This time i used it for the whole process and it worked great.

Yeah, DVD Flick does it all nice & easy.

It's too bad the menu options are limited, but I do like DVD Flick.
