Neither of the those ports are HDMI. They are DVI. HDMI looks more like a USB size.

You are right. They are DVI. I'm going to order one off ebay and see what happens.

It's possible, since you are converting DVI output to VGA for your monitor, that the card is detecting VGA, and thus automatically limiting your resolution on boot? Does your monitor accept DVI, or are VGA and HDMI the only choices? If it has DVI, just use the DVI to DVI. If it does't, but has HDMI, then a DVI to HDMI adaptor, and a HDMI cable might just correct this problem. A Guy

A semi-random suggestion:

If your monitor has a DVI input, and you can lay your hands on a DVI cable, give it a try.

I just ordered one from ebay so we'll see what happens when it gets here. The issue that really stumps me is that before I got the new graphics card I was adjusting the amount of visual memory available on the onboard card. That's when the settings went off. I put the settings back, restored it, etc and it wouldn't go back to the right resolution. So then I thought the card went out and bought this new card. But it hasn't changed or fixed the problem.

Disable the on board graphics in Device Manager. Just because Bios says it is doesn't mean Windows sees it that way.

It may be disabled I suggested you make sure in Device Manager.

Not the PCI Graphics card.:shock:

ok update if anyone cares the DVI chord Really changed the issue - It now pulls a 1680X1024 screen rez -
I have only one question when I tried to up the rez to 1680X1200 just looks better on a custom setting it test and works just fin but then I selected on the size options it flashed but does not change any ideas?

I don't understand - you said you selected 1680x1200 and it looked OK and tested OK, but.......something flashed????? Can you be more specific? Perhaps post a screen capture here to show us what you mean?

Sorry Golden - I plug in the new DVI chord and the screen is working fine it auto set to 1680x1024 and all is well in copmuter land and wife is happy but when I tried to customize the rez to 1680x1200 just to look a little better for her screen it would test and look fine after I set it in customize rez setting it even listed it in the options on the screen rez settings but when I choose it the screen flashes then goes bak to the 1680x1024 and does not use my custom setting... just wondering why that would be...

Its for an HP Pavilion, but the steps are the same for most PC's that come with on-board graphics. Did you follow steps similar to this, or did you install the new card straight away?

Which is what you are supposed to use since it is Nvidia software you are using.

Which you already know.

I don't know why it won't hold. It could be a borderline setting. It should work but won't quite do it.

The only thing that MIGHT work that I know of is to try it with 1680x1200 at 75MHz. Set on the same page as the resolution.
It either will or won't work.

It makes it refresh faster.

I have to use 75MHz as that is suggested but the 60 works. It is jerky to me at 60MHz but my wife can't see a difference.
My last idea for tonight anyway.

I still can't help feeling there is an ongoing issue with the on-board card - can you please check above and let me know how you installed your card?
