All of us here are embrace Windows 7 as the best OS produced by M$ to-date. W8 and W10 still have too many UI changes and the strongly disliked tile.

Really? I prefer 8.1 & 10, 7 is getting a bit long in the tooth.

Umm Hmm - I actually love Vista (once it's patched up) because it has an XP-like taskbar with Quick Launch. I never cared for combined and pinned icons. Plus I like Windows Mail, and 7 has no integrated mail client.

I have come to like 8.1. To me Windows 10 so far is "meh!"

Well sometimes I could disagree with that. I want to be able to have access to the classic desktop should I desire. That's no biggie. It's just a case of removing visual styles (and the classic desktop DOES exist in Windows 8x and 10 TP).

I understand users liking an interface they've become accustomed to and wanting to stay with it. Why is that a bad thing? How is change actually beneficial in that respect?

Yes I do recall trying that. Though I recall the icons in Quick Launch looking oddly small, compared to how it was implemented in XP and Vista. Of course, enabling the Desktop toolbar (provided I have similar shortcuts) provides a good enough experience.

Jody, are you aware that you can create your own toolbars on the task bar on from any folder of shortcuts ? Am on phone atm but will get some further info for you when I'm back on pc if you are interested

True. So anyone reading this who wants to give feedback needs to open a Microsoft account. No biggie to do this: Windows Technical Preview - Windows Insider Program - Microsoft Windows

Some MS person told me that I had to sign up to UserVoice to give feedback (without using the App).

I guess that means any feedback I post at WIP won't be assessed.

You can sign into apps individually and still use a local account,
The only app I'm signed into using a Microsoft account is the feedback app

I saw people complaining (on WIP) that when they tried to use the Feedback App their accounts were changed to "Report to MS" accounts.

When I tried it a few weeks ago it definitely looked like that was what was going to happen, so I "bugged out".

IMO, it is despicable and unacceptable that they are constantly trying to force/trick people into using "Report to MS" accounts.

While they obviously lean on us some to push MS Accounts - so their elusive store may someday be busy selling apps or sky space - by making it so much more convenient to sign in via MS Account that we stop fighting it as I did recently with some satisfaction, I think they really are gung ho to get all the TP feedback they can and are spending a fortune to process it in meaningful ways.

Hopefully this will work better than the exobites of telemetry we were told at my first MVP Summit was they only feedback they wanted on Windows 8, and which I only found out three Summits later took no notice of how many 3rd party Start menus were installed. That they're hearing this in plain language instead of raw bits may make a difference. They certainly were engaged and receptive in the sessions with TP Product Team at Summit, sessions we never had for 8. I'm really optimistic for the first time in years.

I have to admit at first I pretty much used a gmail account and a wrong password to get to a local account option

But yea I don't like even the concept of attaching/ connecting in any default way to a Microsoft account at computer login,
If that's what power users are ? that isn't me but have fun with it whom ever enjoys that type of thing
I for one despise popup messages and most of this is nothing but messengers on steroids

It took me a little while to get used to the feedback app popping up

The way I look at this or any other Preview or Development situation is quite simple ...

If Microsoft or another developer asks for my help with testing, and I can spare sufficient time and resources to do the job, and if the project interests me enough to participate, or I wish to add my point of view to the mix of feedback then I get involved.

I always accept that to provide the information that the developer needs I will have to follow their set-up and usage guidelines, this is not a major issue as I would expect the system to be unstable or at best unpredictable so would never even consider using a preview level software on a critical system, so I would always anticipate that the system would totally wiped at the end of testing and so would only be temporary.

on the subject of a Microsoft login or local login I have absolutely no issue with this - I have had a Microsoft ID for years without any bad effects, I use whatever is best for me at the time, whilst I had a mix of windows 7 and 8.1 systems in use I used a local account Now I have all Windows 8.1 I use a Microsoft log-in as this provides more advantage than disadvantage,

One thing I've found over the years is that Microsoft servers/ databases are terribly unpredictable,
And their support is even worse,

Just correcting or changing a secondary email address has become major freaking surgery or changing/ viewing any existing security information,
Microsoft has to do it for me because all it does is spin me into another 30 day freeze of the account
This type of stuff is supposed to get better attaching a email account to a computer login I call b-s !

The use of a Fully Qualified Domain Name based User name, which is basically the user email address, has been the de-facto standard for logging into a Microsoft Client server networks Since the instigation of Active directory with Windows 2000. It's still in use for millions of users to this day - It could be seen as a logical progression to extend this to home users

That's all good and fine but it has never been more of a ball buster to update information,
I have to ask Microsoft for permission to update information and to please do it for me

It looks like either I've been extremely lucky or you've been extreemly unlucky - I've had my Microsoft account for ten years or more It's been a Hotmail, Live and now Outlook account over that time and cannot remember any real issues, I have added, changed, and removed aliases, use it to access free and paid services without problems, certainly nothing of the level of yours, I can fully understand your feelings on this with your experience

My original Hotmail account has never seen any issues,
It's just a new ...outlook.com address that is just so irritating yet accessible from cell phone without issue

Depends on your definition.
It could easily be argued that the sky fell years ago (and almost no one noticed).

Botnets, cyber-crime, email spoofing, corporate & government spying and ID theft are rampant nowadays.
Even megacorporations & governments can't keep hackers out and information secured.

My friend received an email purportedly from me, sent from my Yahoo account.
It was also supposedly sent to me and a couple of other people.

Apparently he was the only one who did receive it.
I never received it and there was no trace of it in my account.
No one else I emailed has reported that they saw it either.

Avast & Malwarebytes did not detect/report any anomalies and nothing was listed in the automatic scan logs either.

The other day he told me that his workplace was being bombarded with mass DNS requests.
They had to get a technician in, to reconfigure their Cisco router, to deal with the issue.

One of my other friends told me that his laptop got hit by Ransomware.
It was inevitable though as he refuses to use an AV program (real-time or on-demand).
He forked out over $250 to have it cleaned up.

Well that's a worry.

For me I'd like to know when my system has been compromised and revert to a system image even 6 months+ ago. The problem is you never really know. I have licensed software so clean installs are an absolute pain.

The problem is with Yahoo, not with your computer; it's not uncommon with Yahoo accounts. Just change your password.
