I have a 1 year old PC with W7 Home Premium, which I am comfortable with and know to leave well enough alone.

This past Saturday I bought an Acer laptop with W7 Starter, because I wanted to stream a specific radio talk show to listen to in the kitchen as I prepare for work each morning.

Figured out how to enable my Wifi and fired up the Acer. First thing I did was uninstall some of the crapware with Revo, then uninstalled McFee and installed MSE. Went to a few of my usual sites, everything okay. Went to my sports talk show site and installed it as my home page. Did a re-start and home-page fired up. As I shut down, 27 automatic updates appeared, which I thought was fine. Computer shut down and I thought I was good to go.

This a.m., I fired up computer, welcome screen appeared, and I clicked on my standard account, which I had created from the get-go.

Standard and administrator thumbnails disappear then... nothing. I waited 30 minutes, and still nothing. Tried a hard shutdown with power button and...nothing. Will not even shut down. Had to go to work so I unplugged computer and closed lid. This afternoon, I got home and power button was off so I pressed and screen says "resuming Windows". And I am still looking at a welcome page without user names. I attached a shot of it. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Rusty

It would be beneficial to others if you could post how you solved it.

Thanks

It was quite elementary, actually. My 1 year old PC's power button has such a light touch, I assumed the basic laptop was the same. It isn't. I held the power button on the laptop down for about 5 seconds and it shut down. I waited a minute, fired it back up and everything was good to go. Why it stopped in the first place, I have not a clue.
