I have win7 ultimate x64 with 3 HDD partitions, Windows is installed at C:, important programs are kept in C: and other 3rd party programs are installed at D:. I wanted to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro, so I did a backup of C: and D: drives. I did not like Windows 8 because it started to mess with permissions, so I thought that it was a problem from windows 8. So I reverted to win 7 by restoring the entire C: drive with macrium reflect. Ok, everything went well, but I wanted to make a repair install of windows because some icons do not display properly, etc. So I did the repair install from the X17 ISO, the problem is that applications like sidebar gadgets, objectdock, eventviwer, services.msc just don't work, everything just got messed. I checked the c:\users\appdata folder and I have full permission to that folder, however, when I checked the "windows sidebar" folder it was stating that "there is no owner or groups that can access to this folder". Ok, so I added my username and checked full control, and the sidebar started to work. Great, the problem is that there are many other things that do not work or simply crash, and I wonder how many permissions will I have to edit manually, I tried every methods to reset permissions, but it does nothing, taking ownership of both C: and D: drives don't work either, some programs keep crashing because some folders do not have owners assigned.
I can have everything just like I had by restoring my backup image, but sooner or later I will have to do the repair install because boot is very slow and the windows shell is messed.
I did several repair installs without any problems, my programs and settings remained unchanged, but this is not working at all, so how do I solve this permissions problem??
