got an real issue thats really bugging me, built a new system, with i5-2500, asus pro, 2 gig, ati 4870 and the above drive drive (f/w 80.00A80), the drive has been in two other mobos, so loaded new drivers, but windows experience has reassessd the drive at 5.9, which I think is a bit low, the cpu and graphics are good at 7.4, any thoughts, done a defrag, deleted old files, loaded latest drivers, windows update. One or two games habve lag, and desktop is slow to load

5.9 is pretty much the maximum score you can get for a mechanical hard drive. To get much beyond it you need a SSD, that will most likely get you a lot closer to the maximum possible score of 7.9.

Hi, thanks for that, I think it must have been all the rubbish on the drive causing the issues, it is faster now, I guess the best route would be to format the C: partition and re-install a fresh O/S, at least I know the CPU and Graphics card are nearly maxed out, thanks for your thoughts - regards

What Clinkz (The Bone Fletcher ) said , did you even read that, with a HDD you CANT get score > 5.9

Any reinstalling, formatting wont help it.

I've seen a few people who have a RAID 0 array with 2 velociraptor 10,000K RPM drives get a 6.1, but a single stand alone hard drive never gets more than 5.9. This doesn't indicate a broken system, it's just that newer flash based SSD drives are faster and the scale has been adjusted accordingly. The only time I would use the WEI is if my box got something like 3.4 on the hard drive rather than 5.9...and then I would wonder why. If you have a standard HD and have 5.9, you are likely just fine and dandy.

There is something else causing the problem then, when the game runs it pauses every couple few minutes, then carries on, there is always some hardisk activity when this happens, the game has run fine on other W7 boxes I have had never had this problem, also at times Internet pages will not load, there is a delay or more than a few seconds, never had the problem before, the memory (1066) is a bit suspect, me thinks I need to do a few more tests, must admit mighty impressed with the i5-2500k processor and the asus P8P67 Pro board
