WD Desktop green HDD 3TB not recognized in win 7

hi to all

couple of days ago my 3TB Network Drive (WD My book Live) stop working. i tried everything using the WD discovery software, net discovery tool etc to make it work but all in vain, then i found a link on WD forums

"how to unbrick a WD NAS drive" which explain how to recover your data and manually install the software.
after taking the HDD from enclosure. I plug it in to win 7 machine but win 7 did not recognized the HDD anywhere including the BIOS.

i tried to move the HDD to different SATA ports, change the settings to ACHI in BIOS still nothing.

any help would be appreciated.

I'm sorry for the My Book Live problem!

Unfortunately, removing the drive from the enclosure has resolved into the warranty being voided. Also, the error could have been in both the drive, or enclosure, but now it may be harder to try and do something about it.

What was the exact problem? What happened prior to the issue? Do you have valuable information on that drive? How exactly did you try to connect the HDD, internally or externally (USB to SATA adapter)? Try both.

If the drive can't be read outside its enclosure, try returning it in it and using another USB cable to make the connection.

If nothing works, I'm afraid the best option for the data is to contact a data recovery company. This is a list of WD's official data recovery partners, they have most information on the specifics of WD drives.

hi CW_WD, thanks for your reply.
i know that i should not have removed the hdd from enclosure but i did. so leaving that thing behind. somehow i am able to make system detect my drive but when i checked in disk management it only shows as 0.0 GB no initialized but online.
to confirm it i run the "diskpart" command which shows disk as only 512 bytes.

now my question is there a way to format the drive and recover the data from formatted drive because going to those data recover companies is quite expensive and i probably wont be able to afford there charges.

Reformatting a drive is not advised prior to trying to recover data, it makes it even harder. You could try a data recovery tool at home, but again could be risky. :/
