Fixing a friends computer. remove viruses, remove unwanted programs, etc.. Came across 2 programs in the applications list very strange that I have never seen before. Been working on computers over 20 yrs and this is a first for me. Looks like Chinese symbols on both sides and "Windows live mesh active X" in between, for both listings. Can put a screen shot if needed. This is on a new Asus i3 laptop purchased at SAMs club a few months ago. Windows 7 32 installed. Should I delete this or are these safe programs? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

about windows live mesh activex, do i need it , how to remove it? - Microsoft Answers
Live Mesh allows you to sync files across multiple devices such as a desktop computer, laptop, smartphone devices. The ActiveX control is an extension that used by Live Mesh when you are accessing your files on different devices through Internet Explorer.

According to Microsoft in case if you have two or more computers running Windows 7 or in that case Windows Vista, you can make use of Windows Live Mesh in order to sync program settings in between them. You can sync your favorites inside Internet Explorer, in addition to it if you have Microsoft Office installed, you will be able to sync your styles, templates, custom dictionary, and also in addition to it email signatures.

If you don't need this feature, you can uninstall it without it affecting your computer.

Uninstalled it from a laptop earlier today :)

Sorry for posting in wrong section. Just read about this. The weird thing though is the Chinese symbols on both sides of the name of the program. Mean something? Thanks for the quick response.

Not sure about the Chinese symbols, the laptop i uninstalled it from earlier didn't have them... strange, although having had a quick look other people seem to have different symbols too.

Maybe something to do with a language pack or the version that was installed at manufacturer (just guessing there though).

Hey, Had this on my Asus laptop also. It has to do with Windows Live. I just uninstalled it and my computer is running fine.

Hi All,

Yes Windows Live Mesh comes along with windows live package. However, the 2 chinese applications are not part of windows live. I am not sure if they are viruses. Here I attach a screnshot of these 2 applications. The problem is that when I try to uninstall any one of them I get a chinese popup with a chinese command (button) which I don't know if it means Uninstall, Keep it, Run it, Cancel, Done or Install another virus, I don't know what it is and anyway I click it, then I get another window in the same language of my operating system "French" saying to me if I want to allow this application to do changes on my system, so assuming to uninstall, clicking yes or no neither change anything and the application remains always there and can never be uninstalled. Then when I tried to uninstall Windows Live 2011 then I get check boxes of applications I want to uninstall, so I left all and selected only Windows Live Mesh to be uninstalled, but even this did not remove the chinese viruses (or at least I think they are viruses) but my avast free version does not detect any virus on my ASUS Laptop i3, Windows 7 64 bit.

Any further explanations?

i have the exact same problem

i have expearienced the same problem. its funny that i am trying to fix the same asus i3 with windows 7. i would appreciate knowing how this can be resolved. im thinking that this is a virus of a most heinous nature. it may be something to do with the registry and need some sort of registry cleaning software, although i must stress im far from a computer expert. any advivce would be good, thanks

Just remove/delete Windows Live Mesh - Active x in between foreign characters from foreign countries. Just keep your local and/or english versions. Saves you 5,37 mb each version
