What files to move off SSD?

Been looking into moving files that write often to the system drive (SSD). I've moved my temp files, browser temp and cache files. Looking at moving event logs, and any other logs that write often.

I see that event logs are written to System32\winevt\Logs and the path can be changed by opening event viewer and right clicking the categories, choosing Properties, and changing the path. Looking to see if others have done this, and does event viewer continue to work normally?

Also, there are logs written to System32\config.

Also looking for suggestions of what others have moved off the system SSD drive to save unnecessary writes (space isn't an issue for me). What have you all moved, and how did you do it? Thanks, A Guy

Most common is User profile or active User folders: User Profile - Change Default Location

Thanks Greg, had considering that, although I don't know how many writes that saves, not worried about space. Especially looking for things that make a lot of writes to the SSD. A Guy

I moved pretty much the same files you did: Windows\Temp, IE temp, Firefox temp, Download, Pics, Music, Documents, and Indexing. Performance Boost: Move Search Index to Another Physical Drive | Windows Vista Maintenance | Windows Tools, Help & Guides

This pretty much matched up with the advise given at the OCZ forums... so I took it.

Honestly, if space is not a problem, your better off just leave everything on the SSD.
Aside from User Folders as spce may become a issue.

The writes done by Temp, Web Browsers, PF etc (and even SuperFetch) are quite insignificant.
It would be quite difficult to wear the drive out with them being there, even if your doing some moderate writing to it yourself.

The reducing writes seems blown way out of proportion, and I believe is more geared towards the early Gen SSDs.

I didn't move a single thing off my SSD drive. I do have a standard hard drive installed, but I use that strictly for internet downloads, and storage space.

While I understand that there are limited writes to an SSD, I'm absolutely positive that I will have abandoned my SSD drive for a newer, faster, larger capacity model LONG before I ever reach that point. And with prices dropping steadily on SSD technology, it won't be too long before they aren't cost prohibitive. I mean, I see the 80GB Intel 320's for about $150 on NewEgg, which is 1/2 of what I spent on my X25-M G2.

I agree completely. I don't worry about it, at all.

Downloaded zip files.

All of ASUS drivers for instance are zip folders.
You extract the file and forget about the zip file is still there.
My original ASUS drivers for instance were about 500MB of zips with ASUS video driver.
Once the drivers are installed the zips aren't needed so delete or move to backup if you think you may need them again.
