What is this "0-0" I keep getting when I try to run Acronis TI. Is this some hidden partition within Windows?? I don't have a "0-0" partition; one that shows up anyway. if anyone knows where it is, or how to find it, I want to remove it.
Can anybody look at this image and tell me what it means "archive is corrupt"?

The J drive can't be corrupt there isn't anything on it, I deleted all of the failed backup files. I took out the 2 sticks of RAM I added thinking that was causing a problem, still get this same result.
Yes, Anti-Virus is shut off, along with anything else.

I've been trying for months to get a backup image of my hard drive. I can't get one that will pass the verification process, which means the image ain't worth the time it took to make it.

May we see a snip of Windows disk management?

   Note

In the Windows start menu right click computer and click manage, in the left pane of the "Computer Management" window that opens click disk management and post a snip of that.

The smartware is a virtual CD. I came with the new HD.

Thanks that's what I'm looking for, at least I hope so. I don't have any spare cables and I sure as heck hope it ain't the CPU. It's a dual quad processor and they run about $300. It came with the PC. I'm not overclocking, I'm not a gamer. I ran into this same issue when I was running Vista so I bought a new internal drive a new external drive and moved up to Windows 7. It's a real frustration.

Is there some way to test the CPU? I'm going to run the Memtest tonite to see if there is a problem with the RAM. After doing some reading though I'm not sure how confident I am that Memtest will pick up on it if there is a problem.

My guess would be that 0-0 is the first partition of disk 0 - probably the 100MB active boot partition. The system always starts counting at 0 (zero).

Unfortunately your snip of Disk Management is not very telling because it does not show Disk 0 and Disk 1.

To: ztruker, That looks ok but what does it show when all of that analyzing is done? The only image I have had verify is one I ran from the boot CD. When I did a verification check on it afterward it says it failed??

Hey Greg how's it going?
I posted a question in the software section. I tried running the backup for 7 Pro and got the attachment named "backup". I put it in "Software" because I thought it was a separate issue. The long and short of it, that doesn't work either:banghead:

whs: sorry about that I couldn't get it to stretch out that far to show the 0 and 1. Here's a shot of that. According to that it's healthy??

If you are trying to make an image with the native /7 imaging, you are up for many challenges. I would recommend you use either Macrium or free Paragon. Those at least work.

Hi whs
Let me guess I paid extra for the Pro version just so I could make backups with it and now you tell me it's crap? No challenge if I can't make it work.
BTW the post got moved to this section (P&M).

I have the paid version of Macrium and I have yet to get it to make a verifiable image either. (I've had that over a year now.) For some weird reason I can't post in their forum either, even though I have a paid version. I worked with their administrator to try to figure out why. Still don't know. I can access it just fine from any computer but this one. The reason I have the paid version is because when they made Vista they never put a PE in it, so the free version wouldn't work.

Hmm, that is a strange story. I have made at least 50 images and many recoveries with (free) Macrium and never had any problems. I teach a class on it at the local computer club and none of my students ever reported any problems.

Maybe you have a problem with one of your disks. I would uninstall your current Macrium and maybe install the free version (because I know that works). But use Revo for the uninstallation. That way you also get rid of all registry entries and files - use the Advanced uninstallation option in Revo.

Btw: there is no need for the PE disk for a recovery. The Linux disk works fine. But SIW2 can tell you how to make a PE disk yourself - in fact there is somewhere here a thread on it. Ask SIW2, he will know.

Now you've bought Acronis you want it to work - understandable.

Can you get access to a bare bones external HDD without smartware "stuff" and see if you can make an image without an image corruption error.

You could also go to the WD wbsite and get the latest smartware/firmware update for the WD external.

I didn't buy the Acronis, that's the rub. I downloaded a version specifically made for WD. As to the "Smartware" (Which is anything but) I didn't install that, just the HD alone. I don't have the latest updates on it though, at least I don't think I do. Here's the deal, my original My Book croaked after 10 months. WD replaced it with the one I just installed. I don't really know how to find out if the most currant updates are on it or not. My guess would be they are not. However, that being said, on the old one after I installed the first updates the guys on that forum told me "Don't fix what ain't broke". They were right, the problem started right after that update. There was an update for the firmware and the software. I thought I'd see how it worked without updating it.

As to the Macrium, I did install the PE on here with Windows 7. I wasn't sure if Microsoft had put one in it so since I had it I installed it. I could uninstall the whole shooting match and see how the free version works. Wouldn't you know I just reinstalled the thing. I use iobit uninstaller, it's similar to Revo. It has an advanced feature that cleans all files out, including anything lurking in the registry. When I uninstalled the Acronis there were 281 files it found after the initial removal. I did a fresh install when I got the newer My Book HD. It had assigned different drive letters to it, so I uninstalled everything.

I go along with the first bit of advice but it did appear that something was broken.

I don't understand your Macrium comment.
After you have your OS sorted out and given you haven't bought Acronis I'd try both
1) Macrium free
2) Windows inbuilt imaging

With Macrium just check that the linux boot disk works for you. Hiren Boot CD v13.0 has the Macrium pe built in to it's mini XP option.
I think 2 imaging programs is good insurance and I haven't had a single problem with (1) or (2).

Hi again

The Macrium PE lets you load directly to the program during bootup without having to use the recovery CD. It puts Macrium right in the boot menu.

I downloaded the free version. I uninstalled all of the paid version, did a reboot to be sure the PE was no longer on the boot menu. Ran the free version and it failed. I don't understand why it has it set up to auto verify. There shouldn't even be a auto verify with the free version, so I can't find any way to turn it off. So that you can see what I mean I'm putting in 2 images.
Did your free Macrium come with a license key (pre typed in the box) when you first opened the program? There was a license pre typed in mine. It's not the same as the one I have for the paid version, I didn't remember there being one a couple of years ago when I first tried the program out.
If anyone has any idea of how to change that auto verify to N for no I'll give it another shot.

You are really having all kinds of trouble. Mine is not set to Autoverify. Let me check whether one can change that.
