It's not as important to uninstall them right away as to turn them off at startup so they don't freeload on your Startup time, processor cycles, RAM and spy on you. Once you establish a Clean Boot you can wait to uninstall them later after you decide if it's something you want.

Here are the steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware - Windows 7 Forums

Note that with HP you'll need to go into the settings of the useless HP Wireless manager (which adds a minute to boot time) to Allow Independent Wireless before turning it off so you can use Win7's superior wireless manager from the bottom right System Tray.

There really isn't anything I've ever found in the HP preinstalled crapware that I keep. The bootable diagnostics and Recovery partition will run anyway from boot as long as their partitions are kept intact. I'd also make the Recovery disks so you have a path back to Factory Condition if you ever decide to sell the machine, but a more useful backup to use if Win7 ever becomes irreparable is a WIn7 backup image stored externally: Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup
System Image Recovery

Thanks, sorry I took so long. I thought the window would refresh on its on.

Is there an HP Connection/Wireless manager in the bottom right System tray now, or just the 5-bar Win7 connection manager?

I would not install it if it's not already installed.

its just 5 bars

OK I would uninstall HP connection manager it in Programs and Features so it can't interfere as there's no chance you would want it in place of Win7's greatly superior wireless manager. Set a System Restore Point - Create first in case it causes problems during uninstall.

While there I'd also uninstall whatever AV crapware was preinstalled and immediately install Microsoft Security Essentials.

Ok..I have a few left. What do you think about them? What about the quick launch, it doesnt control the volume/brightness/ and other physical buttons on the keyboard does it?

Get rid of HP Quick Launch, HP Setup, HP Support Assistant, HP Documentation, and HP Games.

Alright. You should reboot you laptop so Windows can apply some of the changes that it can only apply during a reboot.

I've had a lot of experience with HPs, including my time as an employee of HP. The best way is to do a clean install and start without any of the apps. On your computer, you should have a SWSETUP directory. Back that up as well, because if you decided you want any of those utilities, you can reinstall them from that folder. None of them are really necessary, to be honest.

I blow that away as soon as I can. There's little point in having a restore method stored on the same hard drive. If the hard drive dies, so does your restore method. I do always create the recovery discs, however, and put them in a safe place.

This is a software I use to get a control on startup apps/services/bloatwares.Helped me to cut my boot time to 50 %. Its a bit (just a tiny bit) heavy on the memory but it frees up more memory than it takes. And it has a lovely UI.

If you want to let other software do what you can easily do manually, PC Decrapifier is the way to go.

I installed the software for testing, but its user-friendliness, made me have it installed since two years.
Its deemed that its better that you do it manually. I like things being at hand, that's why I use this utility. :)

You could make a Windows Easy Transfer file. That will backup the data for your programs, such as game scores. Then, reinstall Windows with an original copy, and install all of your programs. Then, restore the program data with Windows easy transfer by simply double clicking the Easy Transfer file.
