What number is Phone Dialer calling?

Hi,

I'm having trouble getting the Phone Dialler to do what I want it to. I'm trying to get it to prefix all UK mobile numbers (i.e. numbers beginning 07) with the access code 18185. My latest attempt is to save the number in Outlook Contacts in the format (07) 970 111231, and to create a dialler rule for "area code" 07 which dials 18185 plus the area code. This seems to be dialling the access code correctly since it's going to the right service provider, but the service provider is then telling me that the number dialled is incorrect. If I dial the number manually (i.e. if I dial 1818507970111231) then it works fine.

What do you think is going wrong?

How do I tell exactly what Windows Dialler is dialling? Is there a log file of similar?

So, I'll be honest, and admit that I've never toyed with Windows Dialler. However, I've a suggestion/thought, that might work: add 18185 to the beginning of all dialed numbers. If that's an 'internal' access code (i.e: enabling you to call out, or whatever), then toss a "p" in there (i.e: 18185p07970111231).

While I expect that this would work, I don't want to do it for several reasons. First, I have thousands of contacts, and it would be a lot of work (unless I were to write a macro or similar). Second, if I did this it would cause dialling _not_ to work wherever the access code was not accepted (i.e everywhere except UK land lines). Third, what are dialling rules for, if not for this sort of thing?

You can specify multiple phone numbers, right (I'm at home, and no longer can glance at my outlook)? If so, why not set a macro up that adds that extension to any number labelled "mobile" ?

I suppose I could do this. I guess it would have to find any "mobile" number that starts with +447 and replace that with 1818507, and another rule would have to replaced 07 with 1818507. But I would still have to remember to use the 18185 number when I'm calling on a BT line in the UK, and the old number when I'm elsewhere. And I'd have to remember to create both versions every time I enter a new mobile number. And if I ever change my mobile service provider, I'll have to write another macro to change the prefix on thousands of numbers.

It would be much more elegant to use a dialling rule. I thought that was the sort of thing dialling rules were meant for...

Looking at the phone settings, it should be fairly simple to add a rule to do this. Just create a new rule, specify your dialing code, and the area codes it's needed for.
