What's the Best Anti-virus?

so what's the best antivirus ? if i use free ones,how it'll be lower than paid ones ? & how much it complete with paid ones ?
so i'm listing some free ones & paid ones.tell me how are these & complete with each other...
1.AVG Free antivirus vs Bitdefender antivirus plus 2014
2.Panda Free antivirus vs Kaspersky
3.Avast antivirus vs bitdefender & kaspersky
4.i also come to know a new one K7 premium antivirus,plz tell me how it is

Well Mysterious I pay $50 per year for Kaspersky which = $0.13 a day as against nothing for the free ones. Bitdefender works out at $70 per year. The only difference is I suppose is the cover you get with a free one is probably not going to be so featured as the paid for.

Anyhow on pain of being repetitive see this Probably the Best Free Security List in the World section 2 is the real time stuff.

Personally I would not have AVG McAfee Trend Norton or MSE but that is my preference.

Mysterious, generally speaking, most people would be fine with any of the free choices you mention. For that extra bit of protection and extra features, then the paid versions you mentioned would all be good. Which of those is best is always changing, and debatable. How they work on your particular system would be what would decide. Unfortunately you would have to try them all to know. I say try a free version, and if it doesn't suit you, try a different free one. If none suit you, you can graduate to a paid program

Withdrawing from AVAST

I have been a big supporter of AVAST for years, since they were the small upstart.
I have caused or performed the installation of many, many, many copies of their 'ware, many of which later turned to paid subscriptions etc.

I am getting to the point where I will NOT USE AVAST NOR RECOMMEND it anymore. Not because the underlying core product is bad, but because of an accumulation of small irritations.
1. They are becoming SPAMMY just like the worst miscreants in the space. Why did we learn to hate some of the "big" names? Because they left their diligence and expertise and began to simply treat the product as a way to cash-in... the product gets to be an unreliable yarnball with less scrutiny, while the marketeering takes over. I don't know of a way to interdict the spamming on AVAST. For an unsophisticated user, the barrage of spam is not merely annoying, but confusing. In the past, the appearance of a "flag" from AVAST could reliably be conveyed to a user to be a matter of importance, and it was easy to learn to sort the messages. That is clearly no longer the case.

2. The underlying product is getting more complicated and less reliable. The recent link-checking routines [Web Shield] deliver MANY false positives and immediately blacklist the link in question, creatting churn for the user. The average user will simply fail to deal with this effectively. Therefore the product is not recommended for average users.
Further, the product quality for install/uninstall is no longer reliable as it once was. Uninstalling AVAST, even using their own uninstall utility, is unreliable, leaves artifacts that are very difficult to root out. The team is not paying attention to development process discipline, apparently. This reminds me of Norton at its worst point, and the trendline is clearly troubling.

AVAST, you're fired.

I saw that immediately when they upgraded their program to the "new" 2014 AVAST. More complicated, annoying UI, removing/streamlining of their shields, more popups than before etc. I switched to avira, though I'm having some trouble with it as I mentioned in a thread of mine a few weeks back (it has since then disabled itself again ). It's probably the remnants of avast! that's still haunting my system. It's a shame, as it was one of the best free AVs.

Yep well it is just broken down into sections and section 2 is the real time scanners.
Having said that I think you are doing the best thing because as someone else mentioned and I did too that for the small cost you get more features. I particularly like the safe banking with Kaspersky and it is slightly cheaper than the Bitdfender which I set up for someone just last week and to be honest the GUI's are similar but I prefer the Kaspersky.
I find the new configuration set up for the new (2014) Kaspersky takes bit of getting used to but am quite happy with it now - if you get stuck and choose Kaspersky.

I actually had to use the Help files to discover where they had moved various options/settings.

I agree this is why i went to panda. I really miss avast though, before all this crap started.
They were a great company and actually listened to feedback. Now, not so much. I will be keeping an eye on them. Got it installed in a Virtual machine so we will see if anything improves.

I gave up Avast a year or two ago, partly because it was slowing my machines down but also because of the number of false positives. I had the same problems with Spyware Doctor and then followed my local repair shop's advice and installed MSE for constant background protection complemented by manual scans with the free version of Malwarebytes. I've been pretty happy since.

Yep, me too. been using and recommending it to friends and family for years, but no more and for the reasons you stated. Switched to Bit Defender myself and am happy with it (so far).

Fortunately, Seven Forums folks stepped up to help me dispatch the demons, which has not been an easy task.

But I must caution you to NOT fall into the trap of believing that MSE does a good job. In my mind, it does a totally lousy job. I have deleted it from my machine.

But I didn't run them at the same time. I got the latest Windows Update definitions for MSE, then ran MSE and waited until MSE was done, then updated and ran AVG, then updated and ran Mbam after AVG was done. So none ran at the same time.

Or, was that a bad procedure? Teach me. I've suffered enough and am wide open for guidance!

Having two anti virus programs install at the same time will cause problems. (MSE/AVG)
Just because you scan using one at a time doesn't help.
You must only have one anti virus program installed at one time.
The two anti virus programs will see each other and argue.
Pick one anti virus program of your choice. Then use the other anti virus removal tool to remove the one you don't want.

Hmm never seen that one Computiac but if I didn't have the paid fro Kaspersky which I still think at $0.13 a day is almost free I would go the Bitdefender free I tested it and apart from a few pop ups from time to time it is really good.
