What's the Best Anti-virus?

I run MSE and Malwabytes...but manually...every once in a while I update them and scan.

I suppose that's not an ideal AV setup.

But I've always kind of believed that to get a virus on your PC you have to pretty much shoot your foot or put your foot in it.

By the way...this Sandboxie...is it good?

Anyone can get infected regardless of how careful one is. There are poisoned web pages, pdf's, docs, images, etc. A good web page can be hacked and have mailicious code injected. There are drive by infections which need no user action of any kind. You may be infected from a Like, Friending, etc on social networks and give up personal info.

As I understand Sandboxie it allows you to download end execute code in it and be separate from your OS. Any infections are contained and deleted when Sandboxie is closed. It is not a protection per se, but will allow testing.

I think the most important thing to know when your looking for any type of security software, is the users "properties" such as their/your browsing habits, the type of software used, the level of computer experience/knowledge, and if they're position or reputation predisposes them to attack.

This is commonly over looked, and I saw no mention in the original post, but it likely defines what "best" would tend to mean for the user

Thank you,
Mike:)

Hum as rubyrubyroo and Britton have just mentioned a lot depends on one's "grazing" habits and anyway it's a known fact that hackers will always be one step ahead. You don't need to be Einstein to work out that - for example we use antibiotics by the bucket load and constantly need to update the drugs because the bugs develop resistance constantly to whatever we throw at them, go buy a brand new Ford and yep next week there is a new model that you will desperately need, escape proof prisons?

The point has been made and I for one am under no illusion that I am not completely safe with 50,000 new pieces of malware hitting the streets every day - again no rocket science - at that rate you would need legions of workers to keep up, and in any case how do you defend against something that is suddenly sprung on you? It's a bit like people firing bullets at random in your direction dodge and weave around chances are the bullets will miss you - stand still and well work it out!.

My thoughts are that if you are happy with what you have got then your security is probably working at your level of "grazing", you just need to watch where you "graze" after all YOU use the computer - don't YOU have some responsibility? as I think can probably safely assume that most users are adult enough to look for oncoming traffic before crossing the street - well teenagers excepted LOL!!

Having said that I must say that there are some pretty shonky security apps out there - again it YOUR responsibility to choose.

Hum Biker I'm wondering why you have all those at one time it's a wonder that you haven't got conflicts galore.

Mate I reckon you should cut them down to just one suite and not even have to worry re a separate firewall.

So far no conflicts with any and the firewall is necessary because I do business (CAD) from home to work site, which they require.

You should see what the work place has installed; JHU/APL, it's wild

I just wonder if there's anyone out there that is realizing how ridiculous this all is, yet can't look away! (or pop in to the unarguably argument like me!)

It is a good idea to have some active protection running always, no exception unless you PC if offline. Have a look. http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/199990-so-you-think-youre-safe.html#post1679719

I run MSE and Malwabytes...but manually...every once in a while I update them and scan.

I suppose that's not an ideal AV setup.

But I've always kind of believed that to get a virus on your PC you have to pretty much shoot your foot or put your foot in it.

By the way...this Sandboxie...is it good?
if you don't, that is a definite shot in the foot.
