What's your memory assessment speed?

Status
Not open for further replies.
that is probably just the intel speed step or something as you can see the FSB is running at 1333 and the multiplier is at x6 so at idle the cpu is using less power. i set up my HTPC like this as it just runs win7 media center and thats about it but under load it returns the multiplier back to x9 to make 3ghz to speed things up.

yeah that seems to be what is happening b/c it does jump up to 3.16 dependning on what you are doing.

when you go into your bios, go into cpu features, and disable all of them (except the cores)

Disable what features?

Thx
Don

Hey Don,

im pretty sure there will be a section referring to cpu features. it could be under a different category, but they all range from manufacturer. it will have

Enhanced Intel Speedstep® Technology
Intel® Virtualization Technology
Enhanced Halt State (C1E)
Execute Disable Bit

it may show others but these are the ones (i think) it will allow you to enable/disable. Speedstep is the one that will lower your multi when at idle. but i just disable all of them, in a performance point of veiw they are useless, it is mearly to 'save power', and it should show your processor cores on the same page (core 0 and core 1) these need to both be enabled obviously.

4GB DDR2 800 @ 5-5-5-15 2T Wonder why its so much slower than some others at lower bus and higher times? Just for info purposes I am running Kingston RAM

what you want to do is try and change your ram command rate (CR) setting to 1T instead of 2T, but it may take a bit of fiddling to get it working, like increasing mem voltage slightly, increasing the timings ect. but i think if you can get it at 1T you should be getting somewhere around 5k-6k mb/s.

just try and set it to 1T first, then save and reboot, if it works then re-run the mem assessment to see the change, if its good then you need to stress test your system to ensure its stable to avoid any random crashes.

ddr2 is usually easy to get to 1T compared with ddr3 in some cases.

yeh 1T from 2T is usually the easiest and best way to boost performance, but can be a mission to achieve sometimes. especially with high speed ddr3 (like my old super talent 1800 chips)

It's kind of a hybrid between my spec, 16385 and 16397.

It's because I installed update patches from MS not intended for public.

You can find if you search for Windows6.1-KB974817-x86.msu

...will lead to to all of the patches both x86 and x64.

Ahh, I will give this a try when I get home. So I am running twice the cycles. would that mean that 5-5-5-15 2T is the same as 10-10-10-30 1T? Can't wait to see how it works out. Thanks!

im not sure how to compare it, but its simply the amount of times something gets written to the ram modules i think, so if it writes twice (2T) it allows it to become more stable without error so to say, and at 1T it writes the data once, being faster but on the other hand if not configured properly, can become unstable with errors. but my ddr3 1600 chips run sweet at 1T even though they are rated at 2T. so if 1T wont work first run, try setting your timings to something like 6/6/6/17/1T and see if that helps, but i think you should get it strait out with the timings you have.

let me know how you get on later.

Obviously I am new to Memory clocking, so keep that in mind. After a playing around for a few hours I was only able to get my system to boot using 1T with 6-6-6-24 with no overclock of the CPU/FSB. When windows loaded my mem test speed was obviously lower (4569). Trying the settings I originally had with only switching to 1T was a BSOD, several different ones throughout testing. So far the best results I have come up with is by having my memory clocks a bit loose, 6-7-7-20 2T and raising my FSB to 850 @ 1:1 ratio. My speed went up considerably to 6306.91 and it made it through the stress test with no real problem, CPU got a little warm, but nothing out of control.

I must say it's pretty fun :]

Hi,

I've didn't have the time to read all the thread but there's something I'm concerned about this memory test. I'm actually running OCZ PC 8500 5-6-6-18. As I never got it to 1066mhz and it always shows under PC2 6400 800, I set the setting in auto into the bios. Now, I get different results in the test. The first time it was around 5.2k and sometimes I get like 6.7. ANy idea why?

I did match voltage and timing but no success really, CPU-Z show this and everest too. I've google'ed around and it seems my mobo isn't compatible with these rams. Using EP43. Not quiet sure, though.

If I can't reach the indicated setting when changing the voltage and timing, should I leave it to auto or leave it as it?

Which motherboard? There's probably some setting to adjust to get full speed rating of ram instead of underclocking it like it seems to be now.

EP-43-UD3L is the mobo.

PS: Is there any others softwares than CPU-Z & Everest to watch the memory?

I forgot to mention that my fsb is at 240*12.5, which is 20% OC from a E5200 @ 2.5. I wonder if there's something I could change there.
