Thanks again Rick ... what the heck, I'll give it a go ... nothing ventured, nothing gained!

BTW, I searched for 'P1' and 'P2' in the BIOS settings and could not locate anything that resembled them.

Okay Rick, I've performed the minor operation and low and behold, by crikey, I think you're onto something.

Here are the results. I'm pretty sure I slotted the 3 x 2GB sticks into their correct home?

And BTW, my RAM WEI score has gone from 7.5 to 7.6 thanks to you.

You're a genius my friend!

Thanks mate.

Any tips on what I can do to up my memory bandwidth, WEI score etc.. ??

Thanks

Edit: I assume quicker memory would probably help, something to match the FSB the CPU can potentially kick out...

COOL! an xtra 2500mb/s! thats about the same increase you would get from going to 2T to 1T. so the blue slot did decrease a bit of performance for the sake of a bit more ram. but i think 6gb is a good amount. i had to go 8gb cos im running the core 2 setup dual channel, if i wanted 6gb it would be uneven (2x2gb+2x1gb) which i didnt want to do, but you can easily do that with the i7's allowing them to be more flexible. the i7's are by far the best cpu and mobo's out there, and they are already working on newer technology again (i think someone mentioned an i9?) once prices drop i will prob do an upgrade eventually.

and i would say you would have them in the correct slots as the only one you have to remove is that one in that evil blue slot;)

its a pleasure to help Neil! its always a good feeling when you have a win at the end of the day.

and if you want to increase it a bit more...try setting the tRAS to 20 and tRFC to 50 and see if that helps a bit more.
otherwise you could always over clock the FSB and that will always increase everything in the system, again making the ram faster. but i dont know how the i7's overclock (i know they get insane speeds:D) but the FSB are set up different from the pentium and core2 series so i would be lost there.
let me know if you try any other settings.

good luck mate.

Rick.

dont worry about what is cached and what not, windows will do what it needs to do.

as for your mobo, yes its max memory speed is 667mhz (333mhz affective) so no matter what speed ram you put in it it will reduce it to 667, just like a laptop. it also only supports sata1-150MB/s. maybe consider a mobo upgrade that is compatible with your cpu, but you will also need all the ram to be the same sticks to have full function and compatibility instead of having 2 of one type and 2 of another. that can cause overclocking issues if you get into that, also chances are that it will reduce the speed and timings to the lowest rated stick of ram, just like the WEI is rated, that way the system will not have issues. mixing parts can cause a lot of headaches if your not careful. other than that, because you have an amd system you have a descent score, but if you had a better mobo with the same ram in all slots (like the 1066 memory you have), you would probably do better.;)

Yeah, I'm not much of a techy and I've been meaning to learn how about the finer points of PC's and more specifically how to build them but I haven't bothered yet, I've only done minor modifications to my PC, new GPU, more memory, 2 fans & a hard drive cooler :P

well do some research, thats what its all about. building one is not hard at all, everything is pretty user friendly, the 'harder' stuff is when you begin to learn to tweak and overclock your system.

and you will almost always save money building your own compared to buying a pre-built system, the advantage of a pre-built one is the pre-loaded software (mainly windows, the rest of it just slows the system down with all the brand vendor software) just remember to choose your products wisely and research the products your looking to purchase, so you can see the advantages/disadvantages of the product.

Yeah I'll motivate myself to do it but in the mean time one last question
I took out the old RAM PC2 6400 (2x2GB) the one running at 400MHz I believe and replaced with the PC2 8500 (2x2GB as well -- my motherboard Supports PC 4200 and PC2 5300 (667 MHz), but I assumed it would lower to the highest one wouldn't it? aka running @ 667MHz (PC2 5300) but CPU-Z says it's PC2 6400 & running @ 400MHz?

Yeah I'll motivate myself to do it but in the mean time one last question
I took out the old RAM PC2 6400 (2x2GB) the one running at 400MHz I believe and replaced with the PC2 8500 (2x2GB as well -- my motherboard Supports PC 4200 and PC2 5300 (667 MHz), but I assumed it would lower to the highest one wouldn't it? aka running @ 667MHz (PC2 5300) but CPU-Z says it's PC2 6400 & running @ 400MHz?

can you post a screen shot of cpu-z where it says it?

ah ok, forget the SPD tab, it is simply a example or something of what the ram can run at. the one you got to look at is the memory tab, that will show what it is at. so your ram is at 200mhz which in double data rate is 400mhz. which is still lower than it should be which is 333mhz (667)

Yeah, I'm not much of a techy and I've been meaning to learn how about the finer points of PC's and more specifically how to build them but I haven't bothered yet, I've only done minor modifications to my PC, new GPU, more memory, 2 fans & a hard drive cooler :P

You're on the right track

Is there anything I could do to turn it 'up' like in the BIOS of something.

all i can suggest is to try and manually set the mem speed in the bios. you want to set it to 667 but im not sure how your bios is layed out as its an AMD system, i have only experience in Intel platforms. if there is anything along the lines of linked or synced, you need it to be set at unlinked. and go from there. leave the memory timings on auto until you can get the correct speed on the memory. if you can go to the motherboards manufacturers website, and find a link to download the manual or something, i will have a look through it and see if i can figure it out.;)

I think I need much help. This is the RAM I use DDR2 1066

In the BIOS I have the settings set as
Performance Enhance - Extreme
(G)MCH Frequency Latch - 266MHz
System Memory Multiplier SPD - 4.00A
Memory Frequency 1066
Timings 5 5 5 15

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I changed a few of my BIOS settings, changed my FSB from 266 to 400, as well as my RAM frequency. I changed my timings according to the CPUZ 'Timings Table(5 5 5 18)' as well as the voltage to 1.8 down from 2.2. The new picture is attached.

Update: I have no idea what I'm doing, caused my system to because unstable ;-P(Blue screens after a few mins with windows up.)
