What's your memory assessment speed?

Status
Not open for further replies.
My RAM is better than my mobo can handle so it's apparently running at 400, instead of 533, I verified this via CPU-Z and checked G-Skill's web site on qualified motherboards, mine not listed (see my system specs), that and past attempts tweaking with my settings in BIOS failed miserably.
If the "Memory" tab in CPU-z shows 533MHz, then that's what you RAM is running at... The "SPD" tab shows the compatible speeds according to your RAM, while the "Memory" tab shows the current settings. Besides that, according to Gigabyte's website, your P35-DS3L supports DDR2-1066 (link).

I get BSOD's immediately booting into windows if I change anything in BIOS overclock settings, even though this is just trying to get my memory to it's rated potential, mediocre motherboarditis!
That could be for a number of reasons; have you tried increasing the voltage supplied to your CPU or RAM? Overclocking makes a component work harder by increasing it's clock cycle rate, therefore drawing more power than normal.

Although, seeing a review I just found now (I was waiting for the page to load while I was typing this), it appears your motherboard doesn't like overclocking that much anyway... Have a look here. Specifically regarding the point that they increased the CPU voltage to 1.5v and well.. Melted the plug. Lol... That must suck.

Zalith, I am pretty paranoid about harming what I have already got, and yeah next go around I will get a much better chipset'd motherboard, at the time and budget, the one I got was well received, I spend hours and hours reading reviews on newegg and/or other reviews. I generally prefer to stay at stocked speeds, pushing the limit only requires one bad move to screw it up.

I had bad luck there too though kind of, I have 1.0 revision, 2.0 came out a week after I got mine, it probably didn't matter much but... I looked at that article, ouch, very non-overclocking mobo, damn them for the overclocking tease though in BIOS, I mean it's pretty slick settings wise, but useless in practice, what was Gigabyte thinking?

I was just looking at hardware to see what all would be a good upgrade, I need a job!

Nextgen h/w is on the way later this year or early next, as usual... and I am forced to wait so no problem. :D

Are you sure it's not the otherway around on the CPU-Z tabs? Memory one is showing max bandwidth at 400 (PC2-6400, that is the box that is confusing me!), reason I ask, looking at other scores, mine looks bad for what I have, someone else had their DDR2-800 scoring over 8000 to my 6700ish when I am not running browser or other apps.

And yeah I had bought 1066 ram because Gigabyte said mobo supports it, though G-Skill's site doesn't list this one as qualified which confused me further.

Taking a closer look at the screenshots you posted, if you look at the 'SPD' tab again, above the 533MHz settings is shows "EPP #1", while the 266MHz and 400MHz settings show "JEDEC #1" and "JEDEC #2".

The term "JEDEC" itself doesn't really mean anything to what your RAM does, but the "EPP" does. That stands for "Enhanced Performance Profile". If your motherboard supports EPP RAM, then you should have no problem running it at 533MHz (1066MHz effective speed)... If not, then perhaps that's where the problem is coming from?

Another option would be to see if Gigabyte have a later BIOS update available for your board. Hope that helps a bit...

Edit: Oh, and by the way, I get around 8600MB/s with my Corsair DDR2 PC6400 running at 880MHz...

so i put my pc to sleep when i go to work and bed everyday unless downloading something. before i hit the sleep button the ram usage is 21% and gets 18,695gb/s. then i put it to sleep and got to work and get home and wake it up and it runs ram at 14% load and pulls 21,400mb/s. i figure it runs so much faster because of the lack of usage after wake up. here is the before and after. what do you think?

Even if its not listed on Gskill Forums you still can run them at 533mhz.

Set the divider to 533mhz 5/6/6/24/30/2T start at 1.9v to the max of 2.1v. Later on u can just tighten the timings. :geek:

Just popped in "winsat cpu" to see what would happen, and found you can run two tests using -encryption and -compression
ie: winsat cpu -encryption

not sure if this was posted before somewhere but anyways...
nice for those of who like another benchmarking tool.

I tried all three, and added the resource monitor, just cuz I like to watch it.

Other Info
This is probably the longest I've ever had a Windows machine run without having to restore it to scratch. I'm used to restoring to "factory" about every 2 yrs. I've run with Win7 since new in 2009 and only recently (Nov, '14) restored to clean up the machine from all my 'xperimenting. LOL!! I may never need another machine.

Upgraded to 10 when it was still free, then installed 2017 update.
Lol, fun w/ CMD :)

got GA-H55-UD3H, what speed can i overclock OCZ Intel Extreme Edition OCZ3X13334GK you think?

Their site shows:

XMP Profile 1: 1333MHz 7-7-7-20 1.75
XMP Profile 2: 1600MHz 9-9-9-28 1.8V

I'd think the tighter timings at 1333MHz would be better unless you need to run at 1600MHz if you overclock your CPU.
