With only 1 stick you are in single channel mode, that's why your score is a little low.

If it's doing what you need then it's fine.

If you need a performance bump, get another stick of RAM, match your current one exactly.

yeah I'm thinking of replacing that stick with a 4gb stick same latency and voltage but it'd give me twice the ram...

plus, it will start me on the road to having 16gb in my build which will be awesome

Better to have minimum 2 sticks, this will give you dual channel which is twice the speed.

Starting with 1 stick and increasing later, may bring compatibility issues but, can work in most cases.

I'll keep that dual channel info in the back of my mind then for future reference.

Reason to start with an upgrade of one stick is because I'm strapped for cash. Basically, I would just choose the type I wanted and then buy the exact same again later on.

It will all depend on whether or not I can find a job right now. I might have to settle for a McDonalds job or something since my degree isn't helping D:

I use 4 gigs Kingston 533 I don't know if higher or lower numbers are good. No overclocking.

Win 7 6.1 7600 HP 8 GB 1333 DDR3 Intel Core i7 930 @ 2.8 GHz completely stock no additional overclocking. The total run time for the test ran a little long due to Comodo Proactive Defense+ permissions. Certainly not the best mark, but a satisfying 342% better than my Win Vista 6.0 Build 6000 computer which has 3 GB DDR 2 and an AMD Turion TL-60 dualie...

With your fairly powerful setup, you should be able to get even better memory readings. Could you list your memory timings.

Snakeyeskm-This is the first of 4 slots each with a 2GB stick of RAM the rest are redundantly timed. I'm awaiting your diagnosis and hoping for some improved performance out of my factory stock HP computer.

You can check your BIOS options, normally OEMs have CPU and RAM settings (and others) locked down.

Which means, no tweaking.

I'm not sure what to tell you...I bought identical sticks and put them in the same paired channel to get dual channel...

if you did the same, then I don't know what to tell you...I don't know much at all about memory at the moment

ok thanks anyways. I don't know much about it either but it's been like that for a while so no big deal.

I tried putting them in another machine and it got much higher results around 14000, so I'm thinking it's something to do with my mobo.

This new Win 7 computer already operates 10X as fast as my Vista laptop so for me that satisfaction should last quite a while or until I decide I need 20X as much speed which would only be fully demonstrateable in benchtest results. The computer that really needs tweaking is my laptop anyway.
