I think it was a right decision. The system was clearly misused, some members were getting new badges and ranks by telling jokes and gaming tips or how much their machines were OC'd. I think (not sure) that the decision to remove rep scales from NEWS and CHILLOUT ROOM had the same reasoning.

The 'total to give' was lowered because there has been abuse, at both Forums; that's why rep was removed from chillout and news, with more to come later.

I think you are right. There are many things different between SF and vistax64, win 8, and chrome. For example Here we can see the OP rep points (not rep power) in vista, and win 8 you cant. there you can only see their rep power. SO here I dont know what your rep power is, but do know how much rep points you have. there just the opposite. I find the other way annoying, but hey he who owns the ball makes the rules<g>

Which is the way it should be. Being a Seven Guru is just that...a Guru (or one with exceptional abilities) at using Windows 7 and since this is a help based forum than those kind of people are essential. It is all about building a reputation that you can help, are willing to help and have fantastic experience helping others. If a noobie ends up being very knowledeable and is willing to help than he/she will rise to Guru with little effort

In the old days, she would have gotten 300 points.

Now, two 100'ers also rep Martha. She gets 50 more points.

So now Martha has 100 points.
In the old days, she'd have 500 points.

Poor Martha has to do '5' times the 'little effort' than before...
The '5' is only for this little example.

It is worse than that, IMO.

A noob who has contributed little, and may be capable of relatively little "guruness", has as much power to rep someone as any of the hard core professionals who dedicate quite a bit of time.

The change in Rep power was not to scale.

I see your guys points (and valid ones at that)

The only thing I know to do is absolutely nothing. Maybe someone might come up with something in the future that might ratify the situation

Points for style as usual. I agree but its built into vbulletin and John chose 25. I think the second gold turd is either 10k or 15k. In any case a lot of noobs away for us both.

BTW everybody - Tews made a good thing happen today. He went above and beyond to help a fellow SF member acquire a 64-bit install DVD. The recipient does not have a quality ISP or usage plan. Tews caught a glimpse of the problem and solved it.
