When open Chrome browser, icon in taskbar is not correct.

I've been having a problem for awhile. When I open Chrome browser, I noticed the icon in the taskbar was one I had created for a link I put on my desktop for faster access to it. It was very consistent, for over a year I think, to always use that link's icon. It didnt matter which website I was on, or how many tabs were opened to different urls. It always showed that icon on the task bar. I finally got tired of it.

I tried several things, but nothing worked. (yes I tried the fix for corrupted icons) So I tried changing the icon for the link it was borrowing from, back to the default Chrome browser icon. It worked! ...until I moved the link off my desktop. Then Chrome grabbed an icon from another link on my desktop, which also had an icon I created for it...

So, I again changed that icon to the default Chrome icon, and renamed the link... "CHROME ICON FIX", so that I would leave it alone. I created new links to my frequent urls (the ones Chrome previously stole the icon from) and re-attached my homemade icons to them.

So far, several days later, all is well. Chrome is still fixated on the link I renamed "CHROME ICON FIX" and is using the default icon I gave it.

I'm happy to keep it that way, really. I'm not sure how much longer I will be using this laptop anyway.
But, if anyone knows the correct way to fix this permanently, please let me know.
Or if anyone is getting tired of this same problem, I hope you can understand my solution above...

Praying for a better Windows OS to come out, before I buy a new laptop!
