Hello GR,

Pinning a program or folder (toolbar) is basically creating a shortcut of it on the taskbar. If you unpin the item from the taskbar, the item is still at it's original location. Just the shortcut (pinned item) on the taskbar was removed.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

a pinned app is just a shortcut to where the app is installed.

For example, I dragged notebook to taskbar, later deleted it, now I can't find it. I dragged it from Accessories now it's not there. There was an app that came with Win 7, which allowed me to cut any portion of a photo, can't remember name. But same thing, I dragged it from start menu to taskbar, unpinned it, it's not in the start menu, these have to be stored somewhere?

Thanks,

GRB70,

If you drag a item from the Start Menu to the desktop like that, it moves it from the Start Menu to the Desktop. When you delete it (or anything) it removes it from that location and places it in the Recycle Bin.

I would recommend that you stop dragging items, and right click on them to use the "Pin to Taskbar" or "Unpin from Taskbar" option instead. It's much safer. ;)

You could use the tutorial below to make restoring any items that you deleted by mistake in the Start Menu "All Programs" area easier.

When you say it's gone, you mean gone in the sense of that entry from the start menu, correct? It couldn't have uninstalled it, or no?

No you did not uninstall it. It is still in the Program Files. The entry in All Programs is just a shortcut too. But as Brink said, do not drag things around. Use safer methods.
