Solved Where do wires from case connect to on my motherboard?

OK Well i found a wire on my PSU that the connector with the prongs can go in to, the PSU cable connector is labeled P7. So its obviously power. And the lady said that the black connect is, indeed, for the fan speed control. I am having trouble getting the 2 to connect properly though.

Say if i'm wrong and i'm not suppose to provide power to it... will it blow something? or does the motherboard or PSU have some kind of fail safe?

In the pictures, the smaller black cable is a fan connector, which i do not have anything it will connect to. Which means i need to go purchase a molex adapter, correct?

The other two cables i'm holding side by side are the ones im having problems connecting to each other.

I'm getting really frustrated. The documentation to make this easy is no where to be found. Simple cable labels would be awesome. I doubt they make cases that label their wiring, but i would most definitely buy that one in the future if it exists.

i understand where everything plugs in to my motherboard and i am very confident as far as that goes, even with the reset switch, pwer switch, LED's etc.... except these darn case cables. idk where to plug in the fan cables i guess i need molex adapters for that, and the fan speed connector simply wont attach itself to my P7 connector from the PSU. one of the pins inside the fan controller connector keeps moving inward. no matter how hard i try i can't get the two to stay together. WTH ?!

The cables coming from each fan should have a connector that connect to the black cables of the fan controller.. The front panel molex connector that provides power to the fan controller should plug into one of the 4 pin connectors coming out of your PSU. The fans have to have power to run, but they also have to be connected to the fan controller for it to be able to control them. Your manual should tell you how to hook it up, but most manuals are ... lacking today. But presumably, the 4 pin front panel connector shown in the video should power the fans, the 3 (I think) fan wires coming from the controller should plug directly into the wires coming from the fans. You should need no molex adapters unless you intend to bypass the controller and plug the fans directly to the PSU.

ok so i have 2 sets of those white connectors. each seem to be connected to a fan. the other end of the connector has 2 connectors, a male and a female. I hooked one end of the white connector to the second white connector, then connected power from my PSU cable. This i guess would be the daisy chain you were speaking about earlier and the fan speed changer is connected as well....

Does the picture look correct to you?

It looks like i will have to get more molex adapters because there just isn't a spot for these fans to plug in to without them. The only thing i have to connect them is the white connectors you see in the picture above and thats all i got. There's definitely no connections for the anywhere else.

This is a different case, but still same manufacturer. Maybe this will help. Nzxt, I assume, would have the same type controller on most of their cases.

Well i took it to fry's.... Again.

I told them in a respectful tone that this is the third time i've been up there for a simple connectors to be connected as i've done 90% of the work. Was told it would be done same day, and when they gave it back nothing worked.

I spoke with a manager and requested his most senior technician knock this out for me. I also manged to get him to do the cable management which is 30 bucks, for free.

Cant say i'm complaining, wouldn't have had nice and neat cabling in my case if it hadn't of happened this way. I've also learned that i know a couple more things that the new guys up at Fry's so i'm not doing TOO bad =)

Ya'll are awesome. What would us noobs do with out ya? lol

Well, I'm happy you have it fixed like you like it. But, I'm only sorry you had to take it somewhere and pay someone to do it. Of course, like F5ing said, hang around here for a while and you may be the next head of tech support at Fry's. You'd be amazed at the knowledge there is here at Seven Forums. Congratulations on your new build, and you were never a pain. You were what we all come here for.

The best way to learn is to learn it yourself, via trial and error. It sticks in ur head better that way.

But yea, i know... Those guys just have A+ certs and got the job. That basically just teaches you how to identify parts by counting pins, etc and little else.

The senior techs do well... but i dont think their are enough of them. The workload is too much and it effects their attitude as well as their quality of work.

I had him do cable management for me as well as hook everything up. I pay 17.50+tax. I asked nicely if they could meet me in the middle since that was the 3rd time i'd been up there to get this issue resolved. The manager of the store said "No problem".

Thanks again guys!

Very interesting stuuf here. Doing wiring is the bane of myself and Essenbe. If you can get that understood you are well on your way to being a good builder yourself. :D

In fact I'm in the middle of obsessing over my own wiring.

LoL, yea. I use to work for a company and i worked with a lot of circuit boards AKA PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards), and motherboards and a LOT of decent printing on them. Not perfect but manageable.

Plus it was only 17.50 and i could let them stress over it, instead of me =D

LoL. I will be happy to do so but i am extremely busy at the moment to take apart my case and take pictures. fixing this thing took like 2-3 days of my time and to be honest, i am tired of opening it haha.

I will be glad to when i got the time! Check my system specs, they are accurate =)

Good job, I'm glad you have it finished. But, seeing as you are taking pictires, there is a special place on this forum just for pictures. http://www.sevenforums.com/overclocking-case-mods/194592-show-us-your-rig-3-a-164.html

Duly Noted...

I will be more than happy to show off my Rig once i'm done with it... i have like 4 towers and spare parts laying around that i need to put together aspa and sell so it might be awhile.

Off Topic.....

Currently I've re-installed windows for literally the fifth time. It kept creating the system partition file on my 7200RPM Hitachi, NOT my OS drive which is an SSD. Which will obviously reduced speeds, plus my comp was acting funny. I've fixed it... but i want to know WHY this happened!

I've disconnected all drives except SSD, and re-installed AGAIN. hopefully the windows image i created works so that i don't have to re-install those damn updates.
