Where is my drive space? 125GB missing.

For some strange reason I have about 125GB missing from my system drive, and I can't find out what or where the problem is.
here is a screen shot of my drive,

I did select to show Hidden and System files last night when I was trying to see where everything was and I just can't figure out what is holding all of that space hostage.

There is nothing in the recycle bin, ran disk cleanup a few times, defragged the drive, went through almost every folder as well looking.

this is really strange.

go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management, click on disk management. take a screenshot of that and post it.

Run a tool like Windirstat or TreeSize free to see what is taking space.

My guess is that it's system restore points. Right click My COmputer, Properties, System protection and look at your C drive. That can easily eat up quite a bit of drive space.

The Drive is 1TB, but partitioned into 200GB and 731GB.

i just figured out what you did. the first image in your first post is from you opening win7 64 and selecting all, so you only got the total space being used by your files in the partition. your second picture in your first post is from you rightclicking win7 64 directly and selecting properties. in short you are not missing any space. don't feel bad i have pulled this one myself.

Run WinDirStat (but only for C) as pparks suggested. That will show you the whole story. There is no problem with your shadowstorage - it is very small though.

I was missing space.
I installed WinDirStat (thanks for that app) and I had 122GB in Windows/Temp that wasn't showing up when bringing up the Windows folder properties.
I deleted 70GB of tmp files but there are 39GB that won't delete saying I don't have Permission, even though my account is an Administrator.

They are a bunch of HTT****.tmp (the **** represents 4 digits).
They range in size from 575MB down to 2.5KB

That doesn't work either, but that is a very cool menu item.

Then we need heavier guns. It's probably the trusted installer holding them hostage. See this. But that is at your own risk and peril. LOL

here are what the files look like. I am thinking that these are temp files from watching live video stream over at live.twit.tv
I had the stream going for 24/7 for a few days.

Yeah, but those files should be deletable. You can try a couple of other things:

1. try to move them to an empty partition that you can then reformat.
2. try to delete them in safe mode. That way all handles would be released.

But if that does not work, i am at my wits end.

Boot an Ubuntu live cd, navigate to the Windows folder in Ubuntu's filesystem, delete. Cheer.

Why did not I think of that. Exactly for purposes like that I always keep a Fedora on a stick handy.
