I really tried to get this information online but every place I go I just find "you don't need to know where task manager is blah blah blah". LoL!

I'd like to make it start automatically when I boot my system and for that I have to create a shortcut into 'startup' folder and to do that I DO need to locate the taskman file.

Thanks for helping!

Type task manager in search box, right-click it when it appears, choose open file location.

Results should be C:\WINDOWS\system32\Taskmgr.exe

It's located, in a default Windows install, in C:\Windows\System32\taskmgr.exe.

You can get this information yourself, and for any other program, by opening task manager => procesess => right click on the desired one =>open file location. Windows Explorer will open with that file selected, with its full path visible.

That executable is not on any of my Win7 or Win10 disks. It is apparently from you installing 3rd party software. Web search indicates it's part of Neuber Software Suite,"taskman.exe" is the main module of the Security Task Manager from Neuber Software.

Another site says it's part of windows task manager, I don't believe that to be true as it doesn't appear in any of my Windows OSs.

I had tried it before but for some reason task manager won't show up in the results for me...

The correct name is, "view running processes in task manager."

If you start typing that beginning with the letter V, it may show up. However, right clicking that in the search facility isn't going to show you its path, especially if this is a type of virtual process or file what ever it's called now.

In the future, if you are looking for a specific DLL, exe, etc, then use the program called Everything.exe and it'll find it in a second after a few moments Everything.exe indexes your drive/s. Subsequent launching of Everything won't index your drive/s unless it notices major file changes. At least I think that's how it is working unless it's on a timer which I doubt. Also, Everything will fetch results whether they are hidden or system protected hidden files or not. This program is a fantastic Windows search replacement and it's my primary search facility. So because of that I completely turn off the indexing service in services which is great to help minimize unnecessary write cycles to a SSD or NVMe drive. There are other products that do what Everything does, but in my testing those products were hit and miss on results where is with Everything it listed the complete results.

Now that's just for searching for files on a computer. If you want to find data like txt in files themselves, then use the great and wonderful program called Fileseek. It'll will scour though all kinds of files. This program has helped me narrow down certain code withen PHP, CSS, and HTML files on my website. You have to download your public_html or the interested folder and direct Fileseek to seek withen it. Then I use Notepad ++ to open the entry. You can go into Filesek to add Notepad ++ as a file handler.

I've been meaning to buy the Pro version because I feel the software is worth it and I like to give my money where it is due.
