Solved Which disk checker tool/program to use?

As can be seen by my numerous posts, I seem to have a lot of problems so I've been reading about things to try. I'm a n00b with a big yellow streak down my back so need some advice. I'm thinking about either chkdsk or SFC or both.

Do they perform different tasks?

Does it matter which one is run before the other?

I'm sure they're both safe to use but should a 'restore point' be made first?

Also I believe they both offer scan only or scan & fix. Which is best for a n00b?

Yes, they perform different tasks. SFC is not a disk checker. It checks system files and replaces any it finds are missing or corrupted. Run it until it finds no errors.

No harm done in making a system restore point before using either.

I wouldn't think it mattered in which order you ran them, but if you think you have disk issues, I would run checkdisk and also the disk utility available from your hard drive manufacturer's web site.

Thanks. My reason for wondering about disk is due to a listing in Event Viewer yesterday but as far as I know it was a one time listing amid several others. I have since cleared EV but will post shot I did yesterday. I thought it was my harddisk but just looked at my System Specs & it looks like my HD is WD? Western Digital?

I wouldn't draw any conclusions based on that picture of Event Viewer.

Yeah, according to your system specs you have a Western Digital drive. If you fear disk problems, I would run chkdsk as well as the Western Digital downloadable utility.

But I'm not sure why you think you have disk problems?

'cuz until I looked at my Specs when I posted # 3, I thought AMD was my HD, told ya, I'm a n00b.

You have an AMD CPU and a Western Digital hard drive.

I still don't know why you think you have hard drive problems.
