OK, I recently emptied my D:Drive but noticed that there is still used space of 4GB on that drive. So I tried to format it but got an error saying 'This drive is in use. Another program or process is using this drive. Do you want to format it anyway?'

I clicked Yes and then I got error saying 'Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive. Then try formatting again.'

I clicked OK, followed the instructions, tried formatting again and got the same error again. I've tried restarting my PC and also disconnecting/reconnecting my HDD. I also don't have a boot disc (or anything similar) so I can't format from BIOS (or whatever)

Btw, I have Win7x64 installed on C:Drive and have 4 partitions left (D:, E:, F:, G:).

So my questions are:-

1. What exactly is using up 4GB of my hard disk space?

2. Is the missing 4GB the reason I can't format that partition?

3. Why is my pinky finger longer than my thumb?

P.S.: I've attached a Snip of my Disk Manager.

Thanks a lot!!! That DID explain everything!!!

It says 4092 MB is allotted for Virtual Memory on that drive but it also says 6138 is recommended...should I allot that much space for VM?

And how do I ... nvm, figured it out.

Anyhow, I'm gonna set another drive as the host for virtual memory and then format this one.

Thanks a lot for your help! I wish I could rep you twice lol :D

There is really no need to increase the virtual storage, 4GBs is enough.

Around 5-10% of the people all over the world have pinky fingers longer than their thumb...the rest are abnormal ;)
