im looking to upgrade my cpu but dont want to get new motherboard just yet

and was wondering if this cpu will fit on my motherboard

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2 GHz Socket AM3 8MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor - Ebuyer

my motherboard is the acer stock one

Acer RS780HVF

is my current processer amd 2 if so it should work shouldnt it?

*specs in corner*

Yes, it should work, you will only miss some of the advantages of the AM3 socket.

But better be safe than sorry, so check at Acer for a compatibility chart, or maybe a newer Bios to support your future CPU.

Good luck

I didn't know if mainbord was AM2 or AM2+...
AM3 will run on an AM2+ socket but not at its full potential

1. AM3 mainboards only supports 45nm processors.

2. AM2+ mainboards supports both 45 and 65nm processors,

3. AM3 mainboards support DDR2 and DDR3, but most AM3 boards come with DDR3 sockets only.
Something to watch out for, if you want to keep your RAM.

3. AM2/AM2+ Processors (940pin) don't fit on a AM3 mainboard (938pin socket)

4. AM3 processors (938 pin) do fit on a AM2+ mainboard (940pin socket)

5. The difference in performance between DDR2 and DDR3 is negligible.

hope this helps.

And yes...
If you will change your mainboard soon take one with AMD 790FX chipset for DDR3...
This is the best chipset for now...

thank you very much ..hopefully i have AM2+ motherboard
ive just emailed acer about cpu compatible list

ive been googling away trying to find if my motherboard is am2+

but cant find much:(

any ideas anyone

edit,, and ill be getting ddr2 board because ive just bought some quality corsair ram

and the price too performance ratio with ddr3 isnt worth it

I found data on your mainboard.

It's an AM2+ board.

And I recommend to not buy a new mainboard.

1. This mainboard can fit the AM3 processor,

2. you won't have to buy new ram,

3. the performance gain of buying an AM3 board is negligible if you stay with DDR2.

Just buy the AM3 processor and you're fine.

what you talking about willis ... i do understand
Combining AM3 processor with AM2 mainboard with DDR2 will not boost preformance much, but if you use AM3 processor with AM3 mainbord with DDR3, it wil boost your preformance almost twice...
So you don't understand all....;)

It's from someone who posted his specs online:

I do recommend waiting for an answer from Acer support.

Just to know if your mainboard will need a new bios. (and if it is already there)

Sometimes the hardware supports each other, but the present bios build doesn't.

Good luck.
