Is there any inherent limitation to windows 7 that would prevent me from effectively running a 3rd party web server such as apache?

I mean, will win7 allow 2000 simultaneous connections through apache server?

Any other network limitations you know of, if any?

you shouldn't have any issue, just remember your PC will have to be online for the time you use the website

here is a guide if you need more depth to it

cheers!

Windows 7 will, in theory, allow 2000 simultaneous connections through Apache server but in practice you will likely be limited to a much smaller number. You would need a very fast computer and Internet connection to achieve anything near that. Remember that most home Internet services have a much slower upload than download speed. For a web server upload speed is more important than download. Also be aware that most ISPs do not permit operation of an Internet server with a standard account.

You can install whatever program you like into Windows, it doesn't imposes any kind of restriction to web servers or anything else (after all, the OS has no notion of what a "web server" is).

The only problem it might have is the maximum number of allowed concurrent connections. Client versions of Windows restrict it to 20 for "file sharing", but I'm not sure if it holds for any kind of network access or just for the built-in SMB server. In any case it's all about licensing. For sure, the server edition of Win7, Windows 2008 R2, hasn't such limit. See more about it here:
Concurrent Connections on Windows 7 - Microsoft Community

Other than that, it should be fine. However, having 2000 concurrent connections will certainly require a decent sized hardware to handle that load, but once the resources are enough it will work correctly.

yeah, I just saw that thing about that 10 half open connections and 20 concurrent connections.

I am confused about that.

my tcpip.sys version is 6.1.7601.18254, and diagnostic tools say it is limited to 10 half open connections.

Other sources say the half open limit is removed.
Not sure which is right.

and how it will affect running an apache web server......?

Microsoft tech website says there's a registry hack to disable the 10 half open connections, but how do I test if the connection limit is actually disabled?
