Hi
I've got a couple of desktops and a couple of laptops, the kb 3035583 is installed on them all and I've successfully registered on the win 8.1 pro desktop but it's not there at all on the win 7 pro 64 bit desktop.

On a win 7 pro 64 bit laptop when I click on it the pop up opens only to a blank (white) screen inside. I can't see or do anything.

On a win 7 pro 32 bit laptop it's not there at all.

All machines are fully up to date with SP2 etc and all meet the criteria for the upgrade.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get these pop ups to work so I can reserve my upgrades. I intend to upgrade the win 8.1 machine asap but will hang back a bit with the win 7 machines until I know what it's like - can't be worse than 8.1!

As a side, I understand that Windows Media Center will be removed in win 10, I had to pay extra for that when I got 8.1, does anyone know what will be equivalent for win 10, I haven't seen much about it.

Windows 7 doesn't have a SP2, did you mean SP1 plus all updates?

Check for KB3035583 in Update History on each Windows 7 system. If there try uninstalling it the doing another Windows Update.

Ztruker:
Sorry, I meant SP1, slight typo there.

I have tried uninstalling the 3035583 update and re-installing it to no avail. Am going to try and turn off pop up blockers and anti virus next when I get time.

There is a community provided tool/script that will go through several means to fix the common issues. The link to this tool/script is buried on page 90 of this forum - but the easier way to find it is in the middle of this InfoWorld article - it's the dropbox link https://www.dropbox.com/s/0u0au9xgy6ss18p/win10fix_full.zip?dl=0 which is also referred to in the article below:
How to remove (or acquire) the Windows 10 free copy icon | InfoWorld
Instructions to run the tool:
1. Go to https://www.dropbox.com/s/0u0au9xgy6ss18p/win10fix_full.zip?dl=0 and download the file.
2. Copy the win10fix_full.bat file to anywhere else like desktop.
3. Right click the file and click run as administrator.
4. Follow the screen instruction untill to come to main menu screen.
5. On main menu screen do step 1 first and check if you go the updates insalled and and then press any key it will take you back to main menu.
6. Now do step 2 which only takes like 1 second and should have the icon in the task bar.
Please note this tool is not officially from Microsoft is not sanctioned by them but it has been reviewed by me, is not malicious and certainly makes it easier to get the process done.

Thanks for that gerrydog65, I've just tried that, had to do all three as the first two didn't produce the goods and now have to wait. Time will tell.
