Solved Win 7 64 bit (choose a program to open a file, always use selected )

Hi,
I have been having problems opening up my adobe documents. I can right click on them and then get the box to choose a program to open it and it will open. But if I go down to the bottom left corner to where that box is to always use that program to open that kind of file is greyed out?

Any tips?

Default Programs

Have you tried setting your "Default Programs" and default file associations?

I did and that did nothing. I went to the Adobe site and used there uninstaller for the reader, restarted and then reinstalled the latest version.

Back in business.

Weird

It must not have installed properly the previous time.

Since I'm not an Adobe fan, I'll chalk it up to the "spaghetti code" they seem to use in their programs.

There are (free) alternatives to Adobe Reader.
Here are a couple:
Foxit
PDF Converter PDF Editor Edit and Convert PDF, Word files to PDF, Free PDF convert, save PDF forms, create PDF forms, pdf documents, protect pdf
Sumatra
Free PDF Reader - Sumatra PDF

I use Foxit Reader.

i have also encounter this type of problem and the answer to this problem is simple. just go through the following steps.

Open Control Panel / Default Programs.

Select the Associate a file type or protocol with a program link.

After all of the file types load, select the file type you wish to configure and click the Change Program button.

If the program is not in the Recommended section, click the down arrow for Other Programs.

If it is still not visible, select the Browse button and navigate to where the programs *.EXE file is located.

Select the program and click OK.
