Win 7 doesn't install properly on "Win 8 machine"

gregrocker,

I can't get online on the problem machine because I haven't got the money to purchase a new Ethernet cable. In the past for another machine I downloaded a "wireless adapator" on one machine burn't it it to DVD and tried it on the target machine-something went wrong and it wouldn't work!Would this happen with the problem Toshiba?Should I wait until I can afford a cable?

Thanks,

Ken

What did you do with Ethernet cable your IP sent you with the router?

What wireless driver download are you transferring to the problem machine, and what happens when you try to install it?

The cable I got with my router (5 years ago) broke-they wouldn't send me another free one! I got a free replacement router because the 5 year old one broke but unfortunately they wouldn't supply a cable.

Silly me for causing confusion- a while a go you and others helped me with problems with a computer that wouldn't go online, I had to go online and get a wireless adapator (I'm sure or is my memory messing up?) which I then had to transfer to the "broken one" it didn't work, but with the kind help of the people here, the problem was solved in an other way.

You should be following the Steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

It says to put your wireless driver in your backup so if the installer doesn't deliver it you can install it to get online quickly. The driver comes from the Support Downloads wepbage for your model PC.

Once you get online enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) then run all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates until they are exhausted.

Only then should you import any drivers still missing in Device Manager. Do not change any out unless you only have Standard VGA display driver which is a placeholder.

So the solution is not to import 3rd party drivers when you've not even run Windows Updates yet. The solution is to get online now to run all rounds of Updates, then import any missing drivers.

Now, I'll ask again: What wireless download are you using (link please) for what make/model PC, and what exactly happens when you install it?
