Solved Win 7 freeze / Invalid ID for a child device

Hello, my problems started 3 days ago. While browsing with Google Chrome, my pc freezed out for a minute then had this error: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

I updated my GPU drivers, and I disabled the hardware acceleration for Adobe and frome chrome://flags I disabled the GPU compositing on all pages and GPU Accelerated SVG Filters. This problem stopped.
I also installed the new windows updates, and reinstalled .NET framework 4.

Now, after ~10 hours since my pc was on, yesterday while playing FIFA the PC freezed out but no BSOD, i had to reebot the PC and in the event viewer:

Driver PCI returned invalid ID for a child device (FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF00).

The description for Event ID 1 from source NvStreamSvc cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

NvStreamSvc
NvVAD endpoint registered successfully [0]

conflictManagerTypeValue

hmm just occured to me, in google chrome - 6 tabs open - GPU temperature 51-53c
mozilla firefox - 6 tabs open - 39-40c

what?

p.s. both times the pc freezed i had google chrome opened

That's odd. Maybe somehow chrome is causing the crash. Is chrome up to date? go to the 3 lines in the top right corner-about google chrome. When it checks for updates does it say its updated?
Also try using a different web browser for a couple days. If you don't have the crashes anymore, it must be something with chrome. You could also try safe mode with networking. If you try that for a bit and no crashes happen, it is something else going on.

When you receive a message like the one you stated above, this is usually due to the driver crapping out. You have updated graphics drivers correct? You stated you updated them but just want to make sure. Triple check on that.

What is your security setup like? What antivirus do you use?

update: GPU temperature in mozilla firefox goes up to over 50c when I have youtube open in a tab, otherwise is around 40-41c

what is the correct way to update my graphics drivers please?

Those do not seem to be high temps for a gpu, so i think you are okay.

uninstalled the drivers, reinstalled the new ones, rebooted and now it seems that the GPU temperature in chrome even with youtube open is around 42-45c max, otherwise 39c-40c. i will use only mozilla firefox to see what happens, i'll let you know, thank you for the help

started freezing each 5 minutes.

googled a bit and it seems that for many people the problems is the NVIDIA driver 320.49 WHQL. The solution seems to be to roll back on the 314.22 driver.

I just did that, GPU temperature 36-38c. I really hope this was the problem.

Btw, this error in event viewer: Driver PCI returned invalid ID for a child device (FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF00).

Seems to appear everytime I reset the PC.

P.S.: I saw that this was a fix for many people, should I reinstall the drivers in this way?

1. In Control Panel, goto System [WIN+X -> Y]
2. Click "Advanced system settings"
3. Click "Hardware" Tab then "Device Installation Settings"
4. Select "No Let me choose what to do" and "Never install driver software from Windows Update"
(Optional) Uncheck "Automatically get the device app and info provided by your device manufacturer"
5. Now uninstall the nVidia drivers like normal and reboot [WIN+X -> F]
6. After reboot you'll see everything is in low resolution. The driver may still install but it doesn't
install all the way like it used to before.x
7. Goto Device Manager [WIN+X -> M]
8. Find your videocard under Display Device, right-click and Uninstall the videocard
9. Reboot Again
10. Go back to Device Manager [WIN+X -> M] click the last button on the top right
"Scan for Hardware Changes"
(Windows will now install a generic WDDM driver {not nVidia drivers YAY})
11. Install your driver of choice.

Yes, I did that. Shut down my PC for a bit, and when I turn it on, event viewer:

I hope the pc won't freeze out anymore, but can't figure out what's the deal with that PCI invalid ...

Did you change the power setting for the pci to moderate or off?

Ok so for the past 2 days I had the PC on for over 12hrs/day. No error or freezes. What I did:

Many people reporting the same issues I had with new NVIDIA drivers, so:
- installed the 314.22 driver
- disabled the hardware acceleration for Adobe
- in chrome://flags I disabled the GPU compositing on all pages and GPU Accelerated SVG Filters
- reinstalled .NET framework 4
- my computer > control panel > system and security > power options > advanced power settings > PCI Express > Link state power management: OFF

So as I said, no errors or freezes and the temperatures are way lower than with the new drivers, below 40c most of the time.

And about this error: Driver PCI returned invalid ID for a child device (FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF00), I've seen many people blaming the drivers for the Renesas 3.0 USB. I hope this was it and maybe this post will help other people as well, thank you very much for your help.
