Hi All,
I have a very long history of update and activation problems on this computer in the last year.
I posted my problem on the Microsoft forums and a very nice, generous, patient person has been helping me troubleshoot it for a while. You can read through that post for a complete history of what I have tried so far.

Alas, he was not able to solve the problem for me, and suggested a post in this forum for some more expert help. Here is the most recent output from the MGADiag Tool:

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Some new info to add that is not in the Microsoft forum post, I have recently borrowed a friends Windows 7 Home Premium x64 DVD, but when trying to do the same repair procedure as I did with the SP1 Media Refresh DVD, I get an error that (unsurprisingly), my version of Windows is newer than the version on the DVD so it quits out.

Noel seems to have taken you through all the usual steps, and it appears you need to perform a repair install, which is failing...

Lets start with a screen capture image of your Disk Management screen, to see if there are any clues:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/274797-disk-management-post-screen-capture-image.html

When was the last time you scanned for malware on your system? Have you had any recent malware infections?

Duh??
this is a new poster/thread - unless I'm missing something.
/....Ah! I see I did miss something - Win 7 Home Premium not genuine

Raj,
This problem is one of a proper reinstall, rather than one of updating.

I'm going to call assistance in, as my experience here is lacking.

Hi Noel, once again thanks so much for your help with this.

Golden, here is the screenshot of my disk management screen.
I run malware checks maybe once every couple months using Lavasoft Ad-aware (free edition) and I have McAfee Total Protection on my system which runs automatically twice a month, and I just ran it yesterday.

McAfee's latest scan found 1 virus which it claims to have quarantined but before that, it hadn't found anything for years.

Ad-Aware didn't find anything the last time I ran which was probably over 3 months ago, I'll run another scan now and let you know.

*** UPDATE ***
Just finished running ad-aware after I updated it's definitions and it didn't find anything.

Most times when MucAfee is listed as AV, we've found the problem. Removing it may solve it outright. It is the worst possible program you can install on your PC which causes many problems we see here.

I would replace it with the AV we nearly all recommend here since Win7 came out, while working through the other Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

Compare your install with the perfect one compiled in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 (same for retail) to see how close you come to having a perfect install. This would also resolve all problems and set you up with an install better than 95% of users have, which would stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given.

Adaware and Spybot are also from the XP generation. I'd instead use SUPERAntiSpyware.com - Downloads and Malwarebytes on-demand scanners - decline Trial and turn off at Startup.

Replace your AdWare and McCrapee - install MSE as recommended.

Run Malwarebytes as recommended, and post back with the full details please.

A few hard facts would be informative. I wouldn't touch McAffee but many people are happy with Norton Internet Security including me. I run it on 2 PCs in conjunction with free Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes does lean a little towards false positives in my limited experience which is better than false negatives I guess.
To aid the OP, is MSE still up to snuff or has it suffered recently?

Michael, as far as BSOD's are concerned, MSE never causes them whereas our BSOD forums regularly show BSOD's are fixed when Norton has been uninstalled. Admittedly, not all systems with Norton BSOD, but those that do, don't BSOD any longer when Norton is replaced.

MSE is usually the first free recommendation when we see McCrappee. In this case, the OP is probably better off with that, at least for a start, even though he isn't experiencing any BSOD at this point.

The reports on Norton are mixed enough and it has enough advocates here that it may not deserve being lumped with MucAfee, frankly because nothing does. But I would not run it or know anyone who does because it is overweening and dominates the OS while adequate protection like MSE doesn't interfere with performance at all. It's also wise to listen to our BSOD analysts who are the best in the world here.

But there are some Typhoid Marys who don't practice safe browsing and get chronically infected, so for those users I have for some years now installed the trial version of Malwarebytes Real Time protection and insisted they buy it. None have ever gotten infected again. One even called me to ask how to turn it off because it wouldn't let him install an infected player, which I refused. He can play his porn on VLC anyway.

My 2 cents worth Raj run these in tis order and delete any crap http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

Hey everyone,
Thanks for your help so far.

Just some updated info:
  • I completely removed McAfee everything, canceled my subscription, and downloaded Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials
  • I ran malwarebytes and MSE. MWB didn't find anything of huge concern but MSE quarantined something called TrojanDownloader:ASX/Wimad.DI
  • Unfortunately, after running both tools and rebooting, the issue still remains.
  • On a good note, I unpacked 30 different boxes from my last move and found my original Win7 DVD, and I am able to confirm that my product key as reported by Belarc is indeed correct.
So what should I do now? My drivers are up-to-date.

When you uninstalled McAfee, did you also run their cleanup tool? If not please do so...

Download the Avast removal utility from here http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
Follow the instructions for running it, and when complete, reboot the machine.

After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

NETSH WINSOCK RESET

You'll be advised to reboot - do so.
then post another MGADiag report.

What I would do is back up your files to quarantine (later scanned with AV and MBAM) then wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command.

Then do a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which steps are the same for retail.

You'll get and keep a perfect install for as long as you stick with the steps in the blue link tutorial. If you're prone to infection I'd add the MBAM REal TIme protection which won't let anything bad in unless you turn it off.

Hey Noel,
Thanks for the continued feedback.

I did not run the McAfree removal tool the first time around so I ran that, rebooted, ran the "netsh winsock reset" command in an elevated command prompt, rebooted, then re-ran mgadiag. Here's the report:
