Win 7 Laptop Screen goes dark

I have a 10 month old Acer 5820t laptop running win 7 home premium. About 6 weeks ago, the screen started going dark every few minutes and it has gotten worse. I can see the image faintly and by pressing the display brighten button can get it to come back or sometimes have to close and reopen lid it will come back. No external peripherals are connected. The Intel HD graphics card has the latest driver installed. The screen saver seems to work but the display will also go dark when the screeb saver is running.

While i may be wrong, i will say "welcome to the world of acers"

ive fixed a couple of acers this year with screen related issues. While neither had the same problem as yours, i wouldnt be surprised if it was hardware related.
