Hello all,

I'm really at my wits end after a couple of days of trying to get this to work, I'll try and be as descriptive as I can.

We have a PC that was working on Windows 10, but needed to be downgraded to Windows 7 as the touch screen used is not compatible with Win 10. New HDD was fitted.

The motherboard has 4x USB 3.0 ports, no USB 2.0 ports, and no PS/2 Ports (it's a pretty small form factor).

It's a Gigabyte GA-N3050N-D2P

Keyboard and mouse are recognised in the BIOS and work, as soon as you get to the Windows installation screen the lights go out on the keyboard and it and the mouse stop working, so you can't continue the installation.

In the BIOS the legacy support has been tested set to ON and OFF.

I've patched the Win 7 Pro Image using various different tools (Gigabyte recommended tool, Intel NUC patch tool) to patch the USB 3.0 Drivers to the image, I've also done it manually using the command line.
This was recommended to solve problems with USB support, but not specifically when running the Win7 Install.

I can't think of anything else to try, the Gigabyte site for the MoBo says it's Win 7 Compatible, does anyone have any suggestions?

Any help would be appreciated.

- If the touch screen didn't work with Win 10, it probably wont work on win 7, unless you have a specific driver for it for Win 7.
- Win 7 doesn't have the USB 3 drivers so you need to add them to the installation disk or browse to disk location during installation. In both situations you'll end with a installed Win 7 without USB.

It definitely works, the PC was Win 7 before it was upgraded to 10. The touch screen has specific 7 drivers but they are refusing to provide 10 drivers and want us to by a new screen instead.

I've already done this using :

- The Intel NUC Tool for installing these drivers to a USB image.

- The Gigabyte tool from the Motherboard information page.

- Following a guide to do add these to image manually using the command line.

The result is the same, KB + Mouse work until you boot from the USB, when it gets into the windows install environment the lights on KB and mouse go out and you can't do anything.

See comments above.

I also found that the internal USB headers (for the front ports) are supposed to be USB2.0, however connecting these to the case and connecting KB and Mouse there made no difference!

Having a look at your tutorial now, thanks. Although

Did you set BIOS properly?
- Fast boot and Secure boot must be disabled.
- Set OS to other.
- Set boot options to UEFI if you want to install as GPT-UEFI

Edit: Fast boot turns off USB till windows is loaded. If you boot from the installation disk, you wont have mouse and keyboard, even if you have the USB 3 drivers added to the installation disk.

It's odd that this motherboard has a parallel and a serial port, but no PS/2 ports and no USB2 ports.

The motherboard has a PCI slot, so you could get a PS/2 PCI card:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-32bit-D...use-PCI-2Ports-PS-2-without-USB-/181671723885

This would allow you to connect a PS/2 keyboard and mouse. If I had a PCI slot in my computer, I would install this card.

Thank you for this reply! I didn't realise that such a card existed. I was able to get one for a very reasonable £7 on eBay, and it worked right away, so the 3 x PC's we have been stuck on with the problem are now up and running!

Glad to hear you have your computer working.
Don't forget to open device manager to see if there is no yellow alert or missing drivers.

Please mark this treat as solved.
