If this seller does not budge, make sure you report him to eBay. No need for others to become victim of their scheme.

You can be sure of that. What is strange is they (meaning they are an online tech seller) have really good feedback and a score of something like 99%. So I thought it would be okay. I guess you never know. I got a really good deal on this machine and to cut their losses they stuck a pirated windows 7 OS on here. That is my thinking anyway.

Thanks again for your help!

Quick update on this as my ebay seller sent the following as I sent them a message earlier today telling them I would report them to ebay if no resolution.

There reply is as follows:

"Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us. We are very sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We are sorry that you are having issues with the device you purchased from us. We would like to assist you as best as we can. The following information should help assist you.

If you go to the windows icon in the lower right hand corner of your desktop ?start button?, and click on it, a window will open with different options. In the right side column, ?right? click on the icon that says ?my computer?. In the menu that appears click on ?properties?. This will open up a window with basic information about your computer. In the lowest part of the window, there should be information about windows activation. In this area, there should also be a link that says ?change product key?. If you click on this you will be prompted to enter a new product key. Please enter the following product key PXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXW. We will be sending this same key to you in the form of a COA sticker which you can adhere to the bottom of your device.

Please let us know when activation is successful and we will prepare your COA sticker for shipping. If there is anything else we can do for you please let us know. Again we are very sorry for the troubles."

I don't understand their directions for inserting the key given above (I think they mean left vs right) but as I mentioned before under -computer -properites -activation it shows activation not available and product key as not available. Any suggestions as to how I can alternatively enter the product key they sent above? I will try the slui 3 command from search tomorrow. Should I call MS to validate this key?
Any advice that could be offered would be appreciated. I do not have WIFI at home and will be trying this key tomorrow morning. Thanks!

If you cannot get it in, I would call MS and ask for their assistance to first verify whether that is a good key they are giving you and second help you with the activation. Here are the numbers to call: Activation and registration of a Microsoft product

Well validated the product key this morning with MS and tried to enter the product key via the elevated command promt and I received the following error message:

" Windows Activation - Windows must be restored. An unauthorized change was made to windows. You must reinstall or restore windows system files to activate"

I know in Windows XP there was a repair option to repair system files. Can someone tell me is there something like this out there for Win 7. Please keep in mind I do not have an installation disk. I am thinking (hoping) that I just need to repair/restore system files in order to activate. Could it possibly be that easy

Here you go, http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

You may have to run it a couple times if it doesn't fix them all the first time.

Ran the command a couple of times and received the following message upon completion "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations".
SO still not able to enter the latest OEM key this ebay seller sent me and MS again has said they will not support OEM keys and they refer me back to the seller of the machine. I dont know where this seller is coming up with all of these valid OEM keys. It's a frickin catch 22. Would running SFC SCANNOW at boot (I have a repair/restore disk I got off the net) make a difference here?

This sounds very much like an alteration to the system that only a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

Or a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html will fix.

Worth a try, but I doubt the outcome will be different.

Probably a dumb question but..........

With a Windows repair install do you need the installation disk in order to do?

AS this machine did not come with the installation disk. SO could I download and burn one to use? Basically with Windows 7 can one use ANY installation disk for such a purpose - like in the good old days?

Yeah, you need the disc. It also has to be the same version and correct architecture (32 or 64 bit) it can be found on the web.

I'm not sure if we can provide an actual link but there are official download links.

Thanks for this. Not being OS saavy I am running Windows 7 Professional Build 7601 X86 (32 bit right?) so this is what I should look for? Also, since I have a OEM key MS was trying to tell me that this key is tied to a specific install disk. Would that be correct?

Yeah, sent a message to the Ebay seller this morning and told him to quit jacking me around with OEM keys and told them they better fiqure out a different route pretty quick or Im filing a complaint. Guess we will see what happens.

Somewhere therte is a blocker in the system. Probably because it had detected an invalid key. You are probably best advised to reinstall the system and apply the new key then.

Now there are two possibilities,

1. if you have a recovery partition, you could reinstall from there

2. Else, try to borrow an Professional installation disk from someone and use that.

1.) How do I know if I have a recovery partition? I did not set one up.

2.) MS told me with an OEM key that I cannot use ANY Win 7 installation disk to do a clean install but instead I need a specific installation disk that goes with the OEM product key. Do they know what they are talking about?

1. The recovery partition would show in Computer or Disk Management.

2. I am on soft grounds here since I have never done that myself. They may be right, but I am not sure. Maybe some other member knows better. I am sure Greg would know. Why don't you send a PM to him (Gregrocker)
