Win 7 Recovery CD

I am not sure what the Recovery CD would be used for. Is it the same thing as a System Restore Point and is used as a safeguard or it is used for something else?

You would make a recovery CD after you first installed, in case you really mess up your system. A lot of people will make one after installing a new system and getting all their programs and settings just right. This saves time if you need to do a reinstall.

There was another thread about installing the backup in windows and they want you to make a system recovery disk and i remember him saying your Win 7 dvd did the exact same thing the recovery dvd does.

The "System Repair Disk" is a CD that will boot and has the same repair utilities the Install DVD does. If you don't have a DVD drive or did not receive the DVD media with your computer, you can make the CD to use instead.

Now that I read this it seems rather important to have one, kind of like a spare tire.

It is the same Repair Console that is found on the Win7 DVD, or via tapping F8 at bootup if you got the 100mb System Reserved partition at install.

When you first boot into it, it scans your HD's to find Win7 and determine if it needs repair, then may offer you the repair up front.

Also on that first page is a choice to "Recover Using a System Image" which is used to reimage the HD from a Win7 backup image.

Next you can click through from there to Recovery Tools to run Startup Repair (repeatedly in serious cases), System Restore, Command Line, etc.

You really only need to make the CD if you don't have a Win7 DVD or if you want another copy of it's Repair Console. There are tutorials and a download to put it on flash stick, too.

I made and used the "Bart PE" for Windows XP Pro. It was OK.

Not sure if anyway said this about the recovery disk but it is also designed to restore a full HD image (if you made one) of all your programs.
His has to be made and stored in a secondard HD internal or external and can not be on the same HD you have your Win7 nor will it copy to a partition of that same HD. Must be a seperate HD.

I have used this restore and works well. I tested and it totally erases your C: and write the image back to C: in case of a major failure.

Iggy == I have made one. Does it put your system restore point on the disk also?

Win7 Repair CD/DVD links you to System Restore from boot WINRE environment so that you can access all of your restore points if the HD is not completely borked.

Startup repair will also run Sys Restore as it tries it's dozens of tests and applies fixes.

The recovery disk and install DVD are not exactly the same as far as recovery utlities. It will work for most normal problems, but some utilities, such as bootsect.exe, are not on the recovery CD. There may be others, but I did not check.
