I have WIN 7 64-bit and recently it upgraded to include SP1. Shortly after this I found that software I had previously installed and which accessed a Server through PORT 9000 was not accessible.

This was a Logitec App called Squeezebox which is used to administer a music database of .mp3 files installed on my hard disk to play on my Hi-Fi speakers.

To access this I set the browser to "http://127.0.0.1:9000" which normally brings up the Squeezebox Control Page but does not when I use WIN 7 with SP1 installed.

Since this problem arose I have reverted to a previously installed Image File of the C: DRIVE which does not contain the SP1 WIN 7 upgrade.

This action has now restored the working of the Squeezebox Web page.

My question here is :- Is it likely that the installation of SP1 in WIN 7 likely to have had this effect on the operation of PORT 9000?

If it is likely , what can I do to work around this ?

Same problem here. Also using Windows 7 SP1 x64. Squeezebox server can't connect to the player. A suggested fix from Logitech is to edit the server.prefs file (in ProgramData/Squeezebox) and change httpport from 9000 to another value (9001, or 9101). Tried that but the server is still unable to connect.

I hope someone can post a solution.

What about adding an exception in Windows Firewall to allow port 9000?

I got a reply from someone on the Squeezebox Forum , ( can't remember who now ! ) , which suggested the following remedy but , as I solved it by removing SP1 , I haven't tried it yet. Here is his solution :-

1.CP/Windows Firewall/Advanced Settings
2.Go to Inbound Rules
3.Locate ALL rules named"Squeezebox Server" and DELETE them
4.Make NEW rule
Name:Squeexebox Server
Program: direst it to the SqueezeSrv.exe file ( usually found atC:\Program Files (x86)\Squeezebox\server\SqueezeSvr.exe
Potocol:UDP
sPECIFIC pORTS; 3483,9000,9080
Advanced/profiles/private(private only)
5. Make NEW rule
Name;Squeezebox Server
Program:All Programs
Protocol:TCP
Specific Ports:3483, 9000, 9090
Advanced/profiles/private (private only)

I'd be very interested to hear whether this work-around works as I'd like to get SP1 re-installed but only if the Squeezebox Server worked as before.

Best of luck.

Win 7 Port 9000

Thanks for the replies. I'm fairly certain that this problem is not due to a firewall. I already added a rule that allows all squeezebox.* programs to use all in/out ports, and specific port rules to allow all access to ports 3483 and 9000-9099. Also, the firewall logs don't show any action being taken for any ports. To be sure, I disabled all firewalls and still have the same problem.

My theory is that since Win 7 is listening on port 9000 the Sqeezebox server is unable to use the same port.

Windows 7 does not listen on port 9000, at least not on my Pro X64 system.

This could be a problem introduced in SP1. Are you running Win 7 SP1? On my PC, the Windows utility "procexp.exe" shows that Port 9000 is used by "System" for both TCP and TCPv6.

Process Explorer doesn't show ports, at least not that I can see.

netstat -a from a Command Prompt shows active ports.

Forgot, yes, I have SP1 installed.

Process Explorer shows open ports via the Properties context menu. Just select TCP/IP. On my PC, the process "System" has port 9000 open.
Thanks for the instructions for netstat. It also shows port 9000 is active, even when Sqeezebox server is not running.

Try netstat -b. That may tell you what is using that port.

Not time to give thorough discussion but I will throw this out there in case it helps. A search of Windows 7 Ultimate registry found this
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Tcpip\Parameters ---->ReservedPorts -----> 9000-9000 9090-9090 9092-9092 3483-3483
