Win 7 SP1 Mouse Freezes at StartUp

I know this question was addressed ages ago - just not very lucidly. (And the thread is no longer active.)

It was said to be a driver problem. It really would be nice to know which driver. Can I blindly assume this to be mouse/keyboard related and that in lieu of deleting a driver I can simply install the latest Logitech drivers?

Please understand that my Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit w/SP1 is installed on a new Intel X25M SSD so I am not real eager to wipe the SSD and do a reinstall of Win 7 w/out SP1 (as I have been advised elsewhere)

I am assuming that the mouse freezes at startup and then works a short time after you reach the desktop.

An other possible cause is a program that runs at startup. Either the program is maxing out the system resources or two or more programs are conflicting and freezing the system until the conflict is resolved.

To test for this you can use MSCONFIG (type into the Start window), go to the Startup Tab, and uncheck the programs listed. You can do them one at a time, or do them all and re-check them one at a time to see if the mouse stops freezing, and where the mouse starts freezing again.

What make and model of mouse is it? Win 7 installs the basic drivers automatically most of the time but sometimes there is software that needs to be downloaded to get the mouse to cooperate.

I find this sometimes happens with my Bluetooth mouse but usually only for a few seconds while things boot up.

CPU Red Warning Light & Mouse Freeze - NO MORE!

First of all thank you so much for you quick responses and useful suggestions.

There are no programs installed as yet, save for the ASUS Probe II and the INTEL SSD Toolbox - only 2 80 GB. SSD's and major tonnage of Western Digital conventional TB HD's.

Both the mouse freezes and the CPU red warning LED were intermittent, the perfect way to induce insanity. I did not document my steps and for that I apologize. It's just that I seemed to be the only one with such a unique problem.

I am exceedingly stubborn and do not give up until a problem is solved. Also, I have discovered that I could not solve many of these problems without knowledgeable and selfless people such as yourselves.

Oh. Intermittent. Yes, very frustrating.

To try and isolate the issue try running in Safe Mode. If no issues there then you can know it is a driver or process or service that causes it.

You could then use MSCONFIG to try different modes on startup. On the General Tab you could run a Diagnostic Startup. On the Boot Tab you could try a Safe Boot.
