Microsoft has always supported the Hauppauge cards and I never heard any hauppauge not working under WIn7. Win7 even has built in drivers for them.

I would go for the WinTV-HVR-1600 however, because it has hardware mpeg chip which handles all the encoding.

Non hardware cards like the WinTV-HVR-1250 take up a lot of CPU recourses.

good luck

I have an HVR 1800 -- essentially an HVR 1600 that fits into a PCI-e slot -- and it works well on Windows 7. The only issue I have with media center is with "live TV" in which the picture gets "digititus" (choppy and slow) after some variable amount of time. Does not affect recording. The card plays live TV just fine using the Hauppauge WinTV 7 software and I've not had any problems with both packages installed at the same time.

The 1600 is almost the same card, but goes into a PCI slot. 1800 needs a PCI-e 1X or 4X slot.

If you're using Windows Media Center, get the version that comes with the remote control. You'll thank yourself for that one, too.

I haven't used Hauppauge for several years (use Moto STB composite out to 2405fpw composite in). Is the 2250 just a dual tuner version of the 1800 (or 1850)? I know it has hardware encoding...how is the resource usage? Are these the best one can expect in such devices? Thanks! :D

Yes, the 2250 is a low profile dual digital tuner (allowing for watching on one tuner and recording on another tuner) AFAICT.
