@MusicUCanSee, you may want to get a better video card.

If I were going to, I wouldn't get anything less than this for what it sounds like you're into.

GeForce GTX 285

that card is overkill for his system for what he is doing at the moment.
Premiere CS5 has GPU Accelerated Encoding but I am not sure when that will come out.
The 9600GT is perfectly fine for what he is doing.

the card im using was recommended by NLE, they told me that it was actually more card than i needed but i opted to use it anyway.

In addition to my premier production pro cs-4 I am running Matrox video editing software RT-X2. It does a great job of integrating the Adobe suite of programs seamlessly and allows me to combine hi def footage with sd stuff without too much hassle, I don't think it has any impact on what we're discussing but I thought I'd throw it out there.

The Matrox may be the issue.
We are still using XP on our RT-X2 system but that system has CS3 on it. I didn't know they had an update for Win 7 64bit for the Matrox.
I built ours using the component list of one of their test builds 2-3 years ago.

Try starting a non Matrox project and see if you have the same issue ( I can't remember if the Matrox logo will start up regardless of the project you start)

been there, done that, not being a wise guy, just had the same thought myself and opened a straight cs4 project and same results. We're on the same page as far as the 'monitors' within the cs-4 interface, correct. I'm referring to the 'source monitor', 'program monitor' and 'reference monitor' etc? and when referring to my physical monitors i'm using 'primary' and 'secondary' nomenclature.

Audio sounds great and the music is pretty good.

Well, I'm gonna rattle NLE's cage again and see what shakes out. I'm not convinced from what I read here that this problem has been solved. I know it hasn't been for me, I've had a few responses that indicate that their system (running Win 7 Ultimate Pro) has no problem stretching video across both monitors but I've still to discover why I cant get motion video on my 'program monitor' within the cs4 interface when the interface is stretched across both monitors AND Why when I click 'full screen' on my media player, ANY media player it only 'full screens' to the primary monitor, leaving the secondary monitor blank (desktop). Everything worked fine on the exact same machine with CS3 AND XP together, then again with CS4 AND XP, But when I INSTALLED Windows 7 AND CS4 the trouble began. This would indicate that this is a WINDOWS 7 issue, right?

Well, seeing as Windows 7 doesn't work for you, then yea, it is a Windows 7 issue, but only for select configurations, seeing as my system operates fine as well as Bare Foots.

Go grab the 4.2 update from Adobe and see if that helps.

Thanks for the help folks, I'm more confused now than when I walked in but at least now I know I'm not alone. I'll keep checking back and as soon as I find a fix for my dual monitor win 7 video display issue I'll let you know what I had to do to solve the problem.
In the meantime, keep on with the support, you're doing a great thing here, helping each other.
Thanks again.

I think the problem lies with NVIDIA's driver. You would need an "Eyefinity" mode for NVIDIA which will be released for GTx 2xx series (and up) to counter ATi's Eyefinity with the release of GTx 4xx series in few weeks. It will enable you to "span" the display through the driver, and with that it will solve your problem. The real issue is how Adobe CS4 access the display drivers, it's not the same as how firefox + flash accesses it, so it will show weird issues at times. If you have few dollars to spare, try Radeon HD 5000 series, go for the lower series, you only need the "Eyefinity" support...

Well, you guys went well ahead while I was away from my desk :).

In any case, it's clear to me that this is the NVIDIA issue. Maybe the solution on their website that I found was for XP, I did not have time to read it all, but I think NVIDIA is where you will find your answer. I have ATI myself, thus I was never able to reproduce this problem at all.

It's a Win7 OS limitation. Horizontal spanning was dropped after XP. It's because of a change in the display driver model WDDM1.0/1.1 of Vista/Win7. You can no longer have full screen horizontal spanning. Only extended desktop. Windows treats each screen seperatelly. The only way around this is with ATI's HD5*** series and it is done on the GPU at the hardware level. You combine screens together and windows sees the screens as one big wide screen. You could try opening CS4 in windowed mode.
