Windows 8 and Windows 7 SP1 Preparations alongside Windows 7 Development.

Microsoft started preparing for the next releases of the Windows client as the latest iteration of the operating system was still in development. The Redmond-based company already debuted work to ensure the servicing readiness for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and started planning for Windows 8, the successor of Windows 7. The information comes from the profile of Ahmed Badruddin, a Microsoft Software Design Engineer in Test II since September 2008 until present day. Badruddin was one of the people that labored to define and execute the testing strategy associated with improving Windows 7 Service Pack experience quality. (via MSFTKitchen)

I speculated at the time that Windows 7 Build 7227 with SP1 was nothing more than the result of Microsoft testing serviceability for the first major upgrade of the OS, and it looks like I was right.

I'm just shocked that's all, I mean, when they were still making Vista it was like they were preparing a windows that would last forever but then they made 7 a couple of years later which was much better than the broken Vista AND was a great success as well. Why would they rush into a new windows right now while 7 is already kicking @$$ all over the world!!

Microsoft shouldn't be even worried about Chrome and Apple IMO...

In all likelihood SP1 will just be a compilation of hotfixes from RTM onward. Nothing too special.

Yeah. God knows how long they were planning Vista in the days of XP and if I remember correctly, right after the release of Vista there was speculation of the next version which is known now as Windows 7. It's just a thing Microsoft does. They're probably planning Office 2013 or whatever even now too lol.

Post count / badges were not transferable from Vista Forums to Seven Forums, so I imagine the same thing would apply when moving from SF to Win 8.

Maybe I'm just being cynical, but the past 3 iterations of a service pack 1 for windows have all been complete disasters. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results. Keeping that in mind, I think I'll wait for service pack 2 before I update again.

From what I was told by Shawn and John, it was removed due to lack of interest.

How do you get that exactly? Vista > 7 was more then just performance changes. There we UI changes, new features, etc.

The UI and features in windows 7 are all layers over the vista kernel, but it's the same OS.. comparable to a kernel update in linux that happens every few weeks
