Solved Win7 32 bit Custom Install to Win7 64 bit - Error (new motherboard)

I recently switched out some hardware and I now have a 64 bit processor, so I'm trying to install Win7 64bit through a custom install. Unfortunately I can't even get through the "Collecting Information" step due to this error:

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

I looked for quite some time browsing through forums. I usually never have to make help posts because there are solutions already out there. I've seen this error come up a lot for people, but they either didn't burnt heir disk correctly or didn't have the right drivers installed for their mobo. I'm barely 15 and built this computer myself, so it is likely I screwed up in a few places.

Hardware to notice:

Hard Drives Hitachi - HD725050GLA360
OS windows 32 bit - trying for 64 bit
CPU i5 2500k Sandy Bridge (OC to 4.2 GHz)
Motherboard MSI P67A-GD65
Memory 8 GB (2 x 4 gb) G-Skill


I do have a PCI-E card to convert my IDE CD/DVD ROM and burner to SATA because my mobo doesn't have an IDE slot... Does it have to do with that driver (I didn't install it yet)

Or is there something else i'm doing wrong? In BIOS I have it set-up to load through the CD/ROM and even my USB. (I have a slow burned DVD of Win7 and bootable USB with WIN7 made on Ubuntu...)

I can feel I'm close to getting this figured out. Thanks in advance.

Do you have a driver for the PCI-E card? If so, install it when you get that message. Nothing to lose and a good install to gain

the PCI-E card came with a small 80 MM Mini-CD. I don't have a driver for that so I went to the manufacturer's site:

Should I just boot up my win7 32bit and install that (the win7 version of the driver) first? then try to "
upgrade" to win7 64?

or do i put the driver on an empty usb? and which driver should i use

The MSi P67A-GD65 has a uEFI BIOS.

Try cleaning the HD drive, using the CLEAN in command prompt in this tutorial:

Do not partition or format. Than reboot.

It's going to have to be on a USB or CD/DVD for the installer to be able to load it. USB would be the easiest. May not even need to be empty but I'm not sure about that. If you can put it on an empty one then definitely do so.

hmm i cleared my drive and rebooted. i loaded up the [UEFI:Built-in EFI Shell] as my #1 boot option...

when my computer starts it now loads into the UEFI Shell thing....

I get:

I entered help and tried to use the "load" function to load efi\microsoft\boot\cdboot.efi
but I get:

then i tried the load function..

oh? YES! i messed around with a few of the shell settings and it worked on the next reboot xD
