Sorry, I misunderstood. If you already have home premium installed, and want to upgrade to professional, you can get an anytime key.

If you need to do a clean install on a new machine, you will need to buy the full retail version.

If you are upgrading from Vista or XP, buy the upgrade key: Windows 7: Compare Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate

No, the story goes like this: I bought Win7 Home Premium from Amazon and installed it on my computer and that of a friend of mine. I activated the product on my laptop in Control Panel > System inside the 30 days window, but forgot to do so on my friend's laptop. So the 30 days passed and now she gets the message to activate Windows on a daily basis. So, you told me that only one activation key per computer is allowed, no? Which means I'll have to download an upgrade version of Win7 to get another activation key for my friend's computer. Am I correct?

The activation key is the product key behind the box cover, right?

So then, what should I do to get another activation key?

The 20 character Product *ID* is created during the installation
process and is prominently displayed towards the bottom (in the
Activation section) on the opening panel window resulting from
right-clicking the Computer icon and selecting "Properties" from the
context menu. It is used to obtain/qualify for technical support
(limited though that may be) from Microsoft; it is of no use during the
installation process.

The 25 character Product *Key* is used to "prove" ownership of a
legitimate license and is required to perform the installation, and is
either stored on the DVD packaging on a sticker that says "Do not lose
this number," or is on a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) label affixed
to an OEM computer.
It's a question of (legal) semantics but in this case - your case - it's the latter 25 character key which you would require for activation.

Difference between Windows 7 Product Key and Product I.D.

You can use the rearm command up to 3 times after resetting activation with the repair install, as long as it is done before 30 days expires.

This will give you time to shop for Home Premium at a good price, as you only need the key. Be careful buying from 3rd parties, though. Best to get a sealed retail copy from a reputable retailer.

I'm shopping for HP key for a friend right now in the states and it doesn't seem to get cheaper than $102 retail. Wish i would have bought up a bunch of the pre-sales or family pack at half that price.
