Solved Win7 Home Prem OEM activation after hardware changes fails

Hello dear fellows!

Initial situation:
I own a HP system (h9-1001de, bought 2011) and had to change several hardware components after my gfx card and my mobo went down the drain. Also, I'm native German, so please excuse me if there should be language problems.
Now, I'm faced with a Windows, that is not activated and even the 30-day-period is already over.
I tried the activation of my current OS by phone and internet, where it says that my product can't be activated.
I even tried buying a new product code, which won't be accepted either. I get the error description in german, so I don't know how it is in english exactly. Just something like "Windows can't be activated by using this Product Key."

Do you have any idea what went wrong or what to do?
I really appreciate ANY help, because my knowledge has reached its limits.

Hi Meanbob,
Im assuming its a standard OEM computer, the COA sticker on it will give you the relevant information.

That type of licence is tied to your motherboard, which you have said you replaced.

MS will NOT allow us to pass on the licence from one motherboard to the next, as in your case.

So unfortunately it will never activate.

You will have to purchase either a System Builder or Retail type licence.

So, what exactly does that mean? Especially the System Builder bit.
I've bought a completely new product key, as mentioned above, but why is it I can't activate it? I thought, this would quickly resolve the problem...

What you bought was a lifted COA OEM key.

If you look on your comp at the sticker i referred to in my other post, theres a back up key, not the original one placed on it by HP.
what i call a "lifted COA OEM" key-- means taken from one computer and used on another.
The report tells me,
thats whats on your system at the moment.
and a Retail MSI MS 7996 motherboard, NOT OEM

OEM keys WILL NOT and cannot activate Retail installs.

Retail and System Builder Keys should be purchased from well known retailers or specialist computer builder shops.
(buying from the Web is no guarentee that its genuine)

Do you have a prefered web source for such keys?
At the moment, I have neither time nor the inclination to go in a retail store somewhere.
And whats the expected price range I have to expect?

As I look at it, the key I bought came with the explanation "to use the provided image or install the system completely anew" (roughly translated). Is this a usual proceeding?

You can not buy a legal COA key by itself.
Legal COA keys for Windows 7 come with the legal media. (DVD)

Anybody selling COA keys only is selling something that is not legal.

At the present time, where I'm located all I can find is Windows 7 Pro.
The price is $140.00 which includes a Microsoft DVD with the proper COA key.

Resolved the thing in another way now. I had an Anytime-Upgrade-Key lying around from a work@home license pack.
Redeemed it, now my Windows is working again, but it's upgraded to professional. Not that bad after all.
