Solved Win7 on SCSI HD disappeared

Yesterday, my Win7 installed on a SCSI drive failed to boot up. I got an error message of misssing MBR. I could see the SCSI drive in the BIOS as well as boot into Acronis Recovery. I boot up using another HD, but couldn't see the SCSI drive from Disk Management.

1. How could I reinstate the MBR?

2. If reinstating the MBR is too complex or impossible, is there any easy way that I could retrive the data? For example, could I copy the SCSI partition onto an SATA drive using Acronis Recovery?

Thanks for the suggestion.

I did try your suggestion, but the System Recovery didn't detect the SCSI disk. As such, it didn't solve my problem.

I copy the whole partition on the SCSI drive to a SATA drive using Acronis Recovery. Once copied, I could see all the files copied to the SATA drive, and the data seemed to be intact. As such, the SCSI seemed to be intact as well. What I am missing now is a tool which could assess the SCSI drive and able to rebuild the MBR.

Have you tried a Startup Repair? You may have to run it 3 times in order for it to make any repairs.

I haven't tried Startup Repair. In fact, I couldn't use any tools that come with the Windows 7 installation disk at all as it could not detect my SCSI drive.

At one stage, I thought my SCSI drive was dead. However, Acronis Recovery successfully retrieved the data. Unfortunately, Acronis couldn't rebuild the MBR.

Mmm. Thats odd, the BIOS sees it as does Acronis, but not Windows......did you have to install a specific SCSI driver originally?

I am not too sure as the OS was installed by IT. It is a computer at work.

Not too sure it help, but I noticed the SCSI drive is connected to a PCI card, rather than directly to the mother board.

I found the cause of my problem:

My SCSI drive has a "system reserve partition" and a "OS partition". For some unknown reasons, the latter was accidentally marked as active. I used "MiniTool Partition Wizard" to change the "system reserve partition" back to active, it can boot again.
