I have read and I have read and I have read. I have gotten advice from all kinds of posts but NOTHING IS WORKING!!! This is frustrating the snot out of me, ESPECIALLY since I had everything working just two days ago!

Here's my setup...
Desktop with WinXP
Laptop with WinXP
Laptop with Vista
Laptop with Win7 Starter
Desktop with Win7 Premium

I have the workgroup named: WORKGROUP set up on ALL computers.
I have recognition between the Win7's and the Vista.
The WinXP can "see" the Win7's but "do not have access" for some insane reason.
The Win7's can NOT see the WinXP's.

HOWEVER, the Win7 can see the WinXP as a "MEDIA DEVICE" (just not as a COMPUTER).

Let me restate... everything was working perfectly just yesterday. When I got up today... nothing... nada.

Another victim of automatic updates...
If you have the XP and Vista machines all talking with the Win7 machine as the odd man out... you need to do this....

On the win7 machines....

Thanks, Commontate,

I did the changes as you said. Rebooted and still do not see the WinXP computers in the "Computer" list of the Network section.

Hmmmm... have you been messing with the the settings on the XP machines as well.

One issue that is new (and extremely frustrating) in win 7 is that suddenly Workgroup names are significant... Are all machines on the same workgroup?

All of the machines are on "WORKGROUP" (as opposed to MSHOME). I did just realize that that one PC that is running WIN7 is picking up and accessing EVERYTHING from all of the others.

My issues is that one WIN7 and one VISTA is not picking up the XP's and even though the XP's are picking up the WIN7's - it cannot access them.

Okay, now get this! I actually - out of the blue - had everything up and running and then the XP's disappeared from the Network again! How is this possible?

Excluding any type of A/V's or third party firewalls which can also cause these types of problems.

On the Win 7 machine do this.
Navigate to registry by typing regedit into command prompt.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
create or modify 32-bit DWORD: LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy
set the value to: 1

After that reboot all machines and check to see if you can see the XP machines from Win 7 machine.
